87 F150 Won’t Start

Haha, I think I fried something when I was trying to run that diagnostic with jumper wire. I obviously did it wrong.
I dont think you did that. Thats rust, not black crispies.

One thing i forgot to mention earlier.....athough i dont think its an issue now is...if thats got tilt steering its not out of the relm of possibilty something is dicked up in the column. 87-91 tilt columns are JUNK. I put 2 in my 89 before i said screw it and bought a non tilt. Just something to keep in mind....the ignition switch/pushrod/pushgear can cause the actual switch to do some funky shit with power.

Damn well that would be something.. it doesn’t look like a tilt wheel. I’ll pick up a new PCM and see if the fuel pumps starts working again. If FP doesn’t work I’m not sure what it could be after a new PCM.

That's a Crystal its used for timers in the "chips"
You could replace it
And I would replace both caps if there are only 2

Up untill 92 the tilt function was part of the turn signal stalk. Try pushing back (toward the dash) on the turn signal lever while wiggleing the wheel up and down. Tilt was actually somewhat common but most people dont realize its tilt cause theres no second lever.

I found the 3rd cap. They are all pictured. Last one was in the top left corner.

I tried to tilt it, it’s not budging. Might have to see what this is though..

This what I used to jump the FP on diagnostic port. It looked a lot like the one in my ranger except it was plugged up to something.

I also just used a test light with alligator clip on positive aide of battery and test light in FP diagnostic port.. no light. I wasn’t able to get any lights from any of the diagnostic ports. PCM was plugged back in during this.

Test light would need to be on battery Negative and in fuel pump test port, with key on, to show you FP relay has 12v

That test port is only a ground for 2seconds with key on
If YOU ground it then FP relay will activate, if key is on

Okay, gotcha. Doing it that way, with PCM hooked up, the fuel pump relay clicks, the test light glows and the HP fuel pump runs. So why isn’t the pump kicking on normally like it was before? Anyone think the inertia switch is toast? Ill bypass it after work today and see what happens. All fuses under drivers side dash have power.

The FP relay should NOT stay on with key on, what was happening before was wrong, a computer issue

To keep FP Relay closed with key on/engine off, ground the slot in OBD connector
If you don't have 12v at the A/B switch at that time then you can check inertia switch

The inertia switch has already been bypassed. I unbolted it and there was no plug to be found anywhere. I did find the pink/black wire connected to a brown wire.

These are the 2 ways the fuel pumps will run.
1. Jumping at the diagnostic port
2. Jumping fuel relay
I also swapped fuel relays with my ranger and no change.

Pink wire runs to fuel pump, but in this case it runs to the A/B switch

Rangers used a green wire from FP relay to inertia switch, I guess F150s used a brown wire

Yes, with key on and engine off, those should be the ONLY WAY to get power to fuel pumps(A/B switch)

Fuel pumps should NOT run with key on/engine off that's dangerous
