87 2.3 help (4 pics)

cool. thanks for the advice. i cant believe the junk yards aren't open on the weekends. so this weekend was a waste. but this week i'll probably go to the junkyard and look for entire carburetors to replace mine with.

The ones around me are open unless it is a holiday weekend...and that is usually the weekend that I really need to get into them...

Oh, well, patience is a virtue...lol

wow. its been a while since i was on here.

quick update: i got a new job and invited a friend to come live with me for the summer, hurt my kneecaps biking, had to go back to ontario for physio thearapy and i plan on hitting up some of these prime ontario junkyards this week.

besides looking at stuff in the junkyards (i get sidetracked easily) i will be looking for a carb similar to what mark has. i assume that i'll need the choke plate aswell.

i'm also looking for the wiring out of a ranger and some vacuum hoses.

last but not least, a set of exaust headers to replace my old 200lbs manifold.

when i get to bc i will be trying to put this stuff back together, change the oil. replace the burnt bulbs, and throw on an old set of wheels!

and appearantly my bronco 2 that i was eventually going to go and collect has been stolen, possibly by the police.

My 88 2.3, I took all that computer, and vacuum crud that didn't work off, much nicer.

nice, we have the same truck and the same name!

now i was wondering how much money/mods/time that was put into the ranger in the video just out of curiosity.

7th post down

Try to check out Standard Auto around Steeles and Markham road...that's where I found my carb and intake...not that they have more carbs like that, but they have a great selection...and their prices are were not too bad last time I checked...'

They also offer an "all you can carry" deal...it was $75 last time I went (IIRC) and I got about $400 worth of stuff in one day...I might head down there to find some new seats for my Ranger some day soon...when I start working, that is...

Nice video, btw...not sure if I'd go with duals unless there was some serious work under the hood...

Hi, I just got a 85 ranger XL 2wd with 45k on it. it hasn't been fooled with yet, 2.3 fuel injected, original hoses all that stuff so if you need some more pictures I could picassa them to you. Ever seen a factory AM/FM? I'd like one, any help would be appreciated. Fred

there was a bunch of diagrams of the original am/fm decks in my manual. mine was missing the deck but for some reason all the nobs were still in the glove box. i picked up an original tape playing one but i havn't got it in yet.

Well I've been using the ranger as a bush truck because it has no plates. I took it to a parts yard and after the fifth hour in the journey she quit. A loud banging in the top end finished with a clang and no the engine has a whiny hiss. Sounds lime the belt is sliding when I turn the key but I can't check and the belt is tight. I have a feeling a piston is chipped as a result of some failing valvetrain components. I have a good sound clip to upload but I can't do it directly from my phone.

I have many donors so what do you guys suggest? Basic repair, full motor swap, or full rebuild? I got mustangs, rangers and mazdas. Chiiliwack pick a part...

I'd say replace the motor...rebuild if you can...but go for it as long as the body and frame are worth keeping...
