So I've begun the journey. Here's the specs.
1987 Registered Diesel Ford Ranger
VT275 / Maxforce 5 (Basically a V6 6.0)
BD Turbo Thruster w Diverter Valve
5R110
Stak / Trail Worthy T case
EB 9" Rear
EB Dana 44 Front
Around 3.30 Gear Ratio
Coilover Front
Leaf Spring Rear
285 on 16" wheels

So I've been planning this build for quite some time. Now I've collected enough stuff to get started. I've picked up all of the bulk items except the T-case. A few years back I bought the 86' Diesel Ranger with the hopes of having a great daily driver that got unheard of MPG's yet could off road a little and still handle materials for work. Well as I quickly found out, the Government wants all of these old vehicles off the road and wants to control our choices in what we really want in new trucks. Screw them. So it sat as I couldn't find the replacement parts to get it back on the road. Well recently a lot of these had been showing up at actions, and over the past several months I've been able to find 3. So with one for spare parts I have one for this build an another for a Early Bronco. I can finally park my expensive rigs instead of killing them with empty miles for work. Best part is, I'll get an almost brand new truck for half of what it would cost from a dealer, and it will be more reliable and get far better fuel economy. So here are some pics and a video clip of the LCF running.

Newest Update 9/13/13

So finally got the Stak Transfer case Repaired and the Bulletproof Diesel remote oil cooling kit. Stak is now Stak-up Marketing cases are going to be stamped Trail Worthy. So nice to finally dive into this thing. Will probably take me through the winter, maybe even until summer. Lot of hurry and wait. So last night was able to get the Cooler Housing into the valley. Stock turbos almost fit. Would have to run smaller fittings to clear the turbos and a custom EGR cooler and that would be all. But I am going with the big boy BD Diesel turbo. Am going to have to make a custom bed plate turbo pedestal, custom EGR, custom Y pipes, and that's about it. I have a ton of pics so bare with me.

Little tighter

How close the OE turbos come

Turbo Plate

Bullet Proof Diesel Cooler Housing

BD Diesel Turbo w/ Diverter Valve DAMN!!!

I have long pondered the idea of putting one of those in a full size Bronco, early 80s vintage. I will be very very interested to see how this goes. If it goes smooth enough I might do it to me BII.

Take good notes and post LOTS of pics. A lot of other guys are going to be interested in this one too.

Wow, that sure looks wide. hows is the fitment looking so far?.
I would love 35+ MPG out of a Explorer or Ranger, any idea what kind of mileage are your expecting?

I second the width on that one. What's the dimensions and specs on that?

Just reminded me of this.

This gonna be a cool build for sure. As I was scrolling I caught a glimpse of that old crew cab. Id love to stick a diesel in one of those. Keep up the good work!

He has a build thread on it over on Pirate. Its pretty cool.

Update 9/20/13

So good progress for the week, though have found one major change that will cost me a bit more coin than had hoped. Figured that I wouldn't be able to stuff the full drive train in without opening up the core support anyways. Could have easily unbolted the motor and slide that in from the front and trans/tcase from underneath. So Core Support dissected, had to remove driver valve cover (okay cause planned on using hydroboost anyways), removed Industrial PS Pump (will use more efficient Howe or PSC), and the front still has 2-3" on Pass & 4-5" on Driver to come down. T-case will still come up another 2-3"s. This is with the cab and firewall uncut. I probably won't even have to touch the firewall. I think a Stock early 7.3 Pancake downpipe will fit and already have to do custom up pipes and EGR Cooler anyways to tuck it all in nice. Sandwich plate came out nice to seal off the Turbo Oil return line. Any other questions feel free to ask. Sure I probably missed a thing or two.
