Hello all,

Trying help a Ranger owner.

He says he has a 1986 Ranger 4 cyl, he said that the fuel pump keeps running, ignition is off, kills the battery. He did install a Bronco 2 steering column and still does it.

Head scratcher for sure!

Not really a head scratcher. Odds are good the relay is stuck. Unplug it, see if the fuel pump keeps running.

My brothers 92 does the same thing (but not every time), tried new relay's, tried known good used relays, new ignition switch, different ecm, looked the wiring over real good. The truck can be sitting there with no key in the ignition then you can hear the fuel pump come on :icon_confused:

Ugh electrical.... Always fun. Its most likely a relay like adsm said. If its still on there's a short somewhere.maybe even at the tank.

The relay is energized by the computer. The computer energized by the ignition switch, which actually, I think, operates a relay to send the power to the computer.
It might be the ignition switch, the computer relay, the computer, or the fuel pump relay. I think.
