86 gen 1 sas build

Ok..... I'm damn near done with the engine but I'm stuck with the egr tube frome the egr valve down to the manifold. oreilly's and autozone are clueless and the junkyards around me have nothing. Any ideas or if u have one in decent shape for sale, id gladly take it off you hands!

new paint!

I had 30 min. So I decided to paint the block and see what its going to look like. The valve covers and intake aren't bolted on but it looks brand new!

Engine is almost ready to go back in. All that is left is alternator, powersteering, new flex fan and in she goes! I'm so tired of looking at this engine on the stand!

Nice build man. Ill definitely be following. Even though I'm a little biased I like the first gene better.lol

as soon as i get the engine back in and running, ill post a couple of videos off the progress.

I've been everywhere looking for the exhaust manifold to the head bolts for my 2.9l and came up with nothing. I went to the dealership and they looked the bolts up and told me they were $15 a bolt and I lost it. That put me in a fury and I went to fastnal and the found the bolts and they were only 9.84 for 12. I hate the dealership!
On the other hand I should have the egr down tube fabbed up tonight!

Update

I put all powersteering and alternator on and I can't fab the egr down tube till I get the exhaust on but the bolts will be in on friday. Here's a couple of pics.

This weekend is family time 80 miles away from my project, so it should be drivable by Monday night.:icon_bounceblue:

nice build so far, i would go with the extended control arms and coils i personally think you get a better ride out of them and i think they flex better than leafs. i done the sas on my 92 ranger with a dana 30 from a jeep narrowed it to match my 8.8 in the rear. also done a full build on my 84 bronco ll with full width axles and a efi 5.0. here's some pics of my axles on both.

FWIW.

the bronco ll in the fleet up here with a leaf sprung waggy 44 and explorer 8.8 is puttin up darn near the same numbers as my full width mazda. mind you i have well over a grand tied up in my suspension and he has maybe a hundred bucks.

Both builds are in my sig

4.0l flywheel and clutch

i made some progress today. i got the 4.0l clutch and flywheel installed today and i got the new bolts for the exhaust manifolds. i completly forgot the length varies on some of the holes and didnt have the right bolts to finish. if its not one thing it another! i should have this thing running monday night. i also got the engine ligned up and ready to go in, once i get this bolt issue figured out! heres a couple of pics.

i hade to take a break from the engine for now because of the damn bolts. so i decided to take out some frustration on the interior to take my mind off of things. ive never attempted to tackle a headliner but id say i did a damn good job. it has a couple of wrinckles near the back corners but it layed out pretty flat otherwise.

i figure ill do black carpet find some new seats and paint the all the burgandy black with od green accents. it should match my granade shift knobs. all in the future though. ive also decided to not tear the suspension out right away and collect parts so i can drive my ranger again. ill keep posting pics of the progress and update on the parts situations as they happen.

:yahoo:Its runs again! video tomorrow! i messed with my photobucket and screwed up all my pics in my thread. ill have to re post all of them again start to finish.

as of now i got 284 miles on it and its running strong.:yahoo: i painted the interior black, ill post the pics tomorrow. i also have been collecting all of my parts for the sas so i can hopefully have a quick build. i have the axles, coils, rad arms, and temp rims and tires. so for ive only spent $325 on the sas parts i got now. ive got alot more odds and end to collect. ive had a heck of a time finding the transfercases for my doubler. the junkyards around me suck! anyways ill post more tomorrow!

interior, exhaust, axles, and parts

i still need buckets and to glue the mirror back on and put the drivers side armrest back on but..... in time.
