86 Bronco II... G-Unit

@alwaysFlOoReD looks like you win... fuel cell red...

Years and years ago, JC Whitney offered a 35 gallon fuel tank for the Bronco II. I always wanted to see one up close for comparison on how far it hung down.

That one would probably be half empty with today's prices... to much room for condensation.

Besides... I'm shooting for 30+ mpg with old rattle trap.

So I finally looked under the hood of my 88 for the fuel filter. Got you a pic but I dunno how well you can see it. There’s a hose clamp that holds the filter inside the sort of bubble in the frame and the front fuel line fitting makes a 90* right off the front of the filter. Looking at it, I’m definitely inclined to do something different before I put this thing back together. You can kinda see the end of the filter with the fitting

The way ford does their fuel filter has always been strange, hose clamp it to a bracket thats bolted to the inside framerail. At least the bracket has studs, 13mm nuts, dont need to have a 2nd wrench. But the ends of the bolts are right in the salt bath. Ive never had them break off, and Ive always anti-seized things up good when I reassemble.

I'm having a hard time with that picture. But I just followed fuel line from the injector rail to the spot where the high pressure frame rail pump was. No in-line filter.

Up the frame farther.

As many of those as I've changed over the years I'd have to believe if there was an in-line filter I would see it.

I know it seems odd but there is no in-line fuel filter between the high pressure frame mounted fuel pump and the fuel injector fuel rail.

Interesting. I will say, even with a stripped engine bay, it was hard for me to get anything approaching a decent picture of it. My choptop and 92 have the standard bolted on bracket back down the frame more. This one is so close to the engine crossmember that the fuel line has to make a 90* immediately out of the filter or it hits the crossmember. Maybe yours wasn’t like that or maybe someone eliminated it? Not really sure what to tell you. It certainly is a hard to see and access spot though. Above the Radius Arm and front driveshaft, behind the coil/shock bucket and engine crossmember by the exhaust...

Yeah... there is nothing there.

I won't say it wasn't removed... but the plumbing looks original.

I looked for a date code on the door sticker... I couldn't make out the date with a flash light but I will look again in different lighting.

It’s been three concussions and a number of years since I stripped and scrapped an 86 and 87 Bronco II that I don’t remember if they had a filter there or not, so maybe it was something that was added in later production first gens.

The red look’s good on it! Should make it stand out a bit after you get it installed!
