85 Ranger getting some teeth...

:DI'm not computer savvy enough to link it, but do a search here for "89500 Hedman right side" There's a pic in that thread on the 2nd page of the 88400's in a ranger.....................NEVERMIND, i JUST BUMPED IT.:icon_rofl:

Kinda freaky how well they fit. :shok:

Any more potential curve balls going from 2wd to 4wd, like does the engine in a 4x4 sit lower or anything? That is the only snag I can see, if that engine drops the game is over. I see Mustang mounts in there too, which I like. The passenger side exit might be an issue for a stock truck, but I think with my 3" bodylift it won't be a issue.

Well winter has pretty much started, so playing in the garage is pretty much over until spring.

The truck is still mobile, so I can run it in the shop at work to play with it for minor stuff. For the fuel system, what works for an electric pump? I can go ahead and everything installed and wired without hooking it up and be ready to go for when I get the engine put in.

I was going to wire up to a toggle switch so if I want I can kill the fuel. My truck (for some reason??) has an inertia kill switch already in it even though it has a mechanical fuel pump on the engine :icon_confused:, so I will probably try to use it too.

Looking good. Wish I had been able to finish mine. May try it again with a 2 wheel drive.

I used a Purolator 30 gal/hr electric on mine, bought from the local Advance Auto Parts, they now sell the Mr Gasket 12S (or was it 12G ?) pump now which looks like the same pump but rated at 35 gal/hr. I mounted it on the outside drivers fram rail sucking from the old tank return (EFI tank) line. But now have had an inbed tank for years. This same pump has been on the job now for the better part of ten years, feeding everythin right up to my 331 sixpack motor without failure. It's fed from the hot wire on the ignition coil, thru the impact inertia switch. I've got the Mr Gasket pump feeding the 331 sixpack in my 77 Comet too. The only time it's ever starved the carbs for fuel is when the inline filter gets dirty. I use that as a "time to change the filter" indicator.

so are u using a 4.0 radiator? i know when i was searching i saw u were thinking about using one

That is the current plan, I have a good used one stashed away.

That's prime time to get stuff done so that you're going by the time spring hits! Run a cheap heater and keep the beers in the snow lol

The problem is the actual owner of the garage wants their car inside during the winter...

Heat isn't the problem, it has a old house furnace in it that works great. In the shed I actually keep the truck in the door won't shut if I have a receiver in it... its a pretty tight fit.

Man! Your build is informative...

Still trying to find the correct 302 manual tranny to mate to my BW1354E. Are you just reading all of the swapped 302 build threads?

Those Tr-Y's look good...hopefully you don't need to notch anyways. The front driveshaft is suddenly worrying me...

Sorry if I made the illusion I'm using a T5 bell housing. That is not the case but I am running a 164T flywheel with a 5sp NV3550 trany. If you’re looking for a manual the nice thing about the NV3550 is……
1 - It’s small in size. Pretty easy to install without a lot of mods:icon_thumby:
2 - Under rated at 300ftlb of torque.:icon_thumby:
3 – For off road trucks it has a good low (but not to low) 1 gear:icon_thumby:
4 – Has a great over drive for the highway (70mph at about 2300 rpms).:icon_thumby:

The photos of the frame being cut.....wow that's a lot of metal being taken away. I don't think those headers would be worth all that cutting. Espically on a 4x4 truck. Of course just my opinion.:D

Joey,

Did your 5speed Jeep tranny bolt up to your 302 easily? What was required?

I have been digging and searching as needed.

The Tri-Y's did look really good. I didn't see how they were going to work with the front driveshaft so I sent them back.

Not 110% for sure what I am going to do for manifolds/headers yet, but I did decide to wait until I actually get the engine in the truck before I jump on anything, so if I don't like them I can send them back. I did slap my 289 manifolds back on so I can use the lift plates that mounts ouside them that came with the engine to set the engine in the truck.

So, to get this straight (I've got a '97 4WD, so this is important since many on here are 2WD):

Hedman headers = BAD
Tri-Y headers = BAD

Stock Explorer headers = GOOD (but restrictive)
Stock early 70's Maverick headers = GOOD (but restrictive) ????

I don't see why the Hedman 88400's would be bad.

I wouldn't say the Hedman 89500's nor the Tri-Y's are "bad" Do they present problems with a 4wd ? Yes, but so do the Exploder(sorry dude, these are NOT headers by any stretch) and Maverick manifolds

Yea, MANIFOLDS. Technicality... :dunno: chock it up to more of a typo during a brain fart.

I'm still searching for how people got around the front driveshaft...

What's your projected date for dropping the motor?
