85 Ranger getting some teeth...

So the tri-y's do not work for an AOD tranny? I was thinking about getting some of these headers, but i have an AOD tranny. Sorry to jack your thread.

That is the 164 tooth seperator plate on my engine, I didn't check what the tranny was that was atached to the engine but it should have even been an AOD.

You can see what I did to get it to clear the headers, and when mounted in a vehicle there would be a starter mounted on that yet too.

They've been made to fit with a little work. I think a slight change at the bell housing and then straigtening the passenger side, bending it outward towards the frame to clear the trans pan would do it. In nearly everything you pick for a swap, there's always the chance of needing to tweak things to make it work. Just goes with the territory to get what you want.

I posted the pics I took today of the Tri-Y's and the C-4 in my 89 Ranger over on my photobucket pages if anyone wants to have a look-see. And I don't EVEN want to hear about the mess under the truck. If you got comments about that........................:thefinger::icon_rofl:

Excellent shots!

+, very good.

I think it pretty much seals the the deal for their use in a 4x4. I will check/get a pic tomorrow but I am pretty sure the front driveshaft occupies the same space as the left header.

For comparison...

That is with the 2.8, A4LD and BW1350 (that I plan on reusing) and D28 front axle still in place. Suspension is stock with typical 140k mile sag.

Drivers side Tri-Y for quick referance

And I think I one-upped Baddad for a mess under the truck. :icon_rofl:

Good luck with your build. Going to part out and scrap mine. My "rebuilt" tranny had half inch of mud in the pan, water long evaporated. Total scrap, not rebuildable. I'll pull the AA off so maybe someone can use it. Engine I can use in another project. I'll E-bay some parts and I have a guy wanting the 4:11LS running gear. Brand new filter adapters and hydraulic hoses I had made up Friday. Someone will want some of these parts.

I would offer you my C-4 that is supposed to be good, but I want to see if my C5 is worth anything first.

Bummer on your tranny, what is your other project for the engine?

I usually do 66-77 Bronco's. Just couldn't find one at the time so figured I'd do this one till something came along. Haven't really decided. Can alway's use the engine, that I know is right.

It's going to need another trans one way or another, might as well start looking for a replacement and just finish the Ranger.. :D

Pow ,Zoom Right into the T-Case Alice!
Only long tubes your going to get to work are fender exit built by you.

:D Oh yea? I got off work today, stopped by the local parts house, bought transmission fluid and 12 ft of tranmission hose to rig up the cooler lines (yea, yea yea, it's rubber hose, I know what y'all are thinkin :thefinger:) Got home, poured two quarts in the lokar flex dipstick tube. Replaced the broken #4 spark plug, looped the 12" of hose between the two ports on the C-4. Slid the driveshaft in place and bolted up. The main thing I wanted to make sure of in starting it was to make sure I didn't bust the front pump gear when I bolted the motor to the trans with the flexplate holes mis-aligned with the converter studs. Had it just about all the way together when I realized they weren't. The converter was jambed tight to where I couldn;t turn the crank by breaker bar. Anyhoo...................cranked the motor up and everything was fine for about a minute. Then the o ring popped out of the drivers side servo cover................................ No way you one upped the mess that made !:icon_rofl::yahoo::icon_rofl:

When my first A4LD let go back in '02... it was all that with a nice burnt popcorn aroma. In addition to the leaking oil pan gasket and rear seal, the 2.8 has recently learned the trick of puking oil out the dipstick tube to be burned off the exhaust manifold.

I popped the pan off my C5 tonight, it is spotless inside. Probably just change the gasket, filter and front seal and go for now.

Anyone have pics of the 88400's mounted in a truck?
