84 Ranger in Idaho

Picked up an 84 Ranger for my Grandson who turns 16 later this year. We are going to work on it together for his first vehicle. Only has 50,000 actual miles which is probably going to cause some issues. It was parked for a long time. Will be looking for advice here and there.

My first truck was an 84 ranger, followed by an 84 BII that I drove into the ground and left parked when it wouldn't start one day.
After 9 years (!) I got it running with only minimal parts and a new fuel tank, and now 3 years later it is still a good little farm truck.

Thanks. I know my grandson is chomping at the bit to start on it. The how to part is what I am interested in most. The first thing I want to do is get rid of the smog pump, carb, etc.
