'84 ranger 2.8L 4x4 build thread

i primered the ranger today, tomorrow is when it gets the satin black

so here it is after i got done spraying on the satin black, its a $30 rustoleum paint job haha i didnt want to spend a lot of money on paint cause its just gonna get scratched up as soon as i take it off road

so like i mentioned earlier, im getting very little travel out of my front suspension and i thought it was that my coil springs are too stiff but now im doubting that because i was hanging out at my friends house who has an XJ and i looked at his coils and they looked very similar to mine yet he gets a lot more travel in his jeep than im getting... im now thinking that its my shocks, im using stock ZJ shocks cause thats just what i had when i put my axle in.... whatt do you guys think? haha

I'd flex it out and unbolt the shock. If it doesnt drop down, there you go!

As far as the paint goes, that actually looks good in the sun for a rattlecan spray. Good job!

haha thanks, but its not rattle can lol and yeah im gonna try that on friday probly

so heres an update... havent gotten a whole lot done until today cause its like 106 degrees outside haha iv started on my other front fender

im TIGing this side to try to cut down of the amount of finish grinding ill have, and because TIG is a million times more fun haha

so last saturday i took the ranger to an actual OHV trail for the first time, i went up to bald mountain with my buddy who has a cj7 and then sunday night he called and said i had better be up at bald mountain again on monday cause he didnt get enough in one day haha so its picture whore time....

and from this trip i discovered that i picked a very good hobby to get into haha but my friend learned that it can hit your wallet pretty hard, he ended up with a rear main seal failing and a huge oil leak, we had to limp it out to the road and trailer it home:icon_rofl:

Trucks looking good. I like your fender work. I haven't been to bald mountain in years I think I'm gonna have to make a trip soon. Keep up the good work!

and do you think that this type of bed/exo would look good on my truck?

It doesn't matter how bad ass your truck is as long as your having fun. The more you break the more you upgrade. and leave the sway bar out you'll get more flex without it. I'll let you know the next time I head up there. You get your boys and I'll do the same. wheelins wheelin doesn't matter how old you are Just know I'm not responsible for your actions LOL. Chances are we all now each other some how anyways. Shaver lakes not a big place.

As for the exo, never been a fan of them but to each there own. Just make it your own.

i usually disconnect the sway bar, but i decided to see how much of a difference itd make if i left it on and it just broke haha and yeah that sounds like a good time, definatly let me know when you come up, i have school starting up again in two weeks so ill only have weekends open... and i cant ignore my girlfriend for as long as id like so ill be getting a pretty cramped schedual soon

i picked up 3 bfg mud terrains from 4 wheel parts today for free, theyre take offs so im gonna use em as spares, but the best one still has like 30% left on it

also i found this in the yota section over on pirate4x4, anyone know how this was done exactly? im assuming a grinder and some creativity but i could be wrong haha
