Hey all-

I have a 84 bronco ii with a 2.8 litter. My charging system is not charging. I picked up the truck about 4 months ago abd two moths in i go out to it after work and it does not start. And tgats when it started. Since then I replaced the alternator, batteries and external regulator twice. The first time I replaced the alternator it was over charging reaching 19.5 volts so I replaced the regulator it did not make a difference. I figured alright I have a bad regulator would not be the first time I have gotten a bad one. No difference. I then got a new alternator just in case a diod is bad. Now it is not charging at all. Any ideas what it could be at this point. This is my daily driver and need to get it back up

Do you have an AMP Meter or a Battery(charge) Light on the dash?

Alternator wiring is fairly straight forward.

An alternator can not start making voltage unless it has voltage to start with, but if you leave it with voltage on and engine off battery will run down.
So on the voltage regulator there will be a Light Green wire, that wire "turns alternator on and off", it is connected to key switch/ignition switch, either direct to voltage regulator or thru Battery light.
Test that wire for 12volts when key is on and 0volts when key is off.

Larger wire on alternator is connected to the battery thru a Fusible link, a 6" wire that is smaller than alternator wire, it acts like a fuse and will separate if too many amps pass thru it.
Test that wire at alternator, it should have 12volts 24/7, key on or off doesn't matter.
If no volts the fusible link has blown.

Thank you I will try that.
