I don't think there are any differences in the arms, but the beams and knuckles are different.
The early ones have the upper ball joint facing down, the camber slug going up into the beam. The later ones the upper joint faces up and the slug goes down into the beam.
The later ones also have a better range of camber bushings.
Not really. Some (all?) 83-88 had a bolt on lower shock mount, IIRC all 89+ trucks have the shock mount stud. If your 83-88 has a front sway bar, it may use the bolts for the shock mounts to also hold a bracket for the end links.
I have an 86 2wd and it has the sway bar running under the radius arm cross member and ends inside the radius arm
The shock mount bolt also holds the sway bar to the radius arm
The shock mounts are bolt on rather than a stud. I have pics somewhere but I'm not at home for a few days.
This is the only pic I found. It shows the back side of the radius arm view from the passenger side looking at the drivers side. There is a U-bolt holding the end of the sway bar to the radius arm. On the other side is a bracket that the same u-bolt holds to the radius arm and at the forward end of the bracket is a hole that the shock bolt goes thru. You can see the end of the shock bolt and nut just to the right of the u-bolt in this picture.
