Bought a 8.8 rear end with factory disk brakes.
Pumpkin has a single hole for sensor on top.
NO bolt hole to hold sensor.
It fit right into my 06 ranger.
It did not have the sensor in it.......
That's killin me...
Ford couldn't figure it out without vin.
I put a cork in it and duct taped it...
The pic with plug is on my 06 ranger.
Anybody got a guess about what this axle came from???
I Measured it's width, it's the same as my 06 axle...

it might have come out of a newer (2010 or 11) Ranger, I believe those had factory disk. Also if you didn't have to move and reweld spring perches that is another nod toward a later model Ranger. I believe that all the other 8.8 applications have different spring perch locations.. might be wrong, but that is my thoughts anyways. As for the sensor hole, not sure why it doesn't have a plug, might be a missing rubber plug that fits in like a grommet.

Maybe some of the owners of the newer old Rangers can give some insight.

That's a real possibility. If it came from something with really new 4-wheel ABS, imay not have had a sensor there. Instead, each wheel would have a reluctor wheel (big toothed disc) built onto the back of the brake rotor and there would be sensors at each of those wheels.

If it was an Explorer axle, the spring perches would be on the bottom.

I've never been around one but I would think the 10-11 would have a sensor at the wheel like most more modern cars.

10-11 axles have larger diameter tubes, so more than likely do not bolt directly in IIRC

idk, I'm a terrible mechanic, don't listen to me.

Aside from u-bolts and corresponding plates I think they drop right in.

Ok. Been thinkin maybe a explorer differential? only 1 inch wider. Nothing needed altering or welded. Still stumped!

If Ford drilled the Vehicle Speed Sensor hole, they drilled the bolt hole next to it to bolt the sensor in. There is no other factory sensor that mounts in that hole in a different way. There’s either a broken bolt (or some other object) in the bolt hole or it’s not fully drilled (common on non VSS axles).

If it’s a 10-11 factory disc axle, it will have wheel speed sensors at each axle end.

Explorer axle would have the spring perches on the bottom for "spring under" configuration. Unless somebody cut them off and moved them to the top.
