Definitely need 8.8...and because of my wheel/tire combo and ride height i need the 89-92 width. If I have to i have a mustang trac loc in can put in, can't deal with that one wheel peel...prefer 3.55 or 3.73 gear ratio but I can deal with any ratio@fordgasm69 I'm not too far from you, between Roberta and Fort Valley. Might be able to help out with the search, might even have something already. Few questions:
1) Are you certain you need an 8.8?
Rangers could also come with a 7.5", especially in those early years. I might have more access to the 7.5" from those years and 8.8" in the 93+variety. Like @RonD said, the 93+ axles are like an inch wider per side, but it's hardly noticable once installed.
2) What gear ratio?
3) Open or limited slip?
