73 blazer help

the timing lights aren't the problem. Not to hijack, but the hub of the balancer has the external ring mounted to it with a glued/ pressed on rubber ring. Those rings let the outside slip, I've seen brand new dampeners 3-5 degrees off.

Very possible, likely running lean. Check and see if the carb is squirting gas when you open the throttle.

its not i checked that

People have used timing lights for years to get timing where it needs to be. Nothing wrong with it.

Backfireing through the carb? Probely the other not getting enough fuel when the other 2 barrels open...im assuming its a quadrajunk carb?

If it were me id throw the quadrajunk away and get an edelbrock.

later,
dustin

its a holly truck avenger, i just rebuilt it last week. it only does it when im on the throttle:icon_confused:

shes fixed!!! my buddy crossed cyl 5 and 7, then on top of that he over tightend the front float screw. this cracked the brass fitting. that wouldnt allow the float to return up and it would choke off fuel to the carb. fixed the screw, fixed the cross wires, re timed it and tuned it....now shes runnin good

Is it 2 brl, or 4brl? sounds kinda like its lean now. adj the two screws 2-1/2 to 3 turns out. if that dont fix it, get a case of beer and a laptop.
Is the ECM new? only like 20bucks.

Sorry, did not see last post.(fixed it)

well i got yet another problem. ive drove it for the past 2 days and shes been runnin good. well tonight it had a hard time idleing. i pull into a parking lot and go to adjust the the idle beacuse i thought i had it set too low. well it died before i could pop the hood. 5 mins of cranking and it started. idled real rough and smoked black. the whole time it kept acting like it was beaing flooded. tomorrow im going to try and adjust the air fuel mixture. would that be a good place to start? if this stupid holly carb needs another rebuild im goin to blow my top

well the air fuel mixture was off. then the rear float level was set to high causeing it to flood. all fixed.....i hope
