so i had to replace the distributer in my k5; i got it back in with cyl 1 on top dead, the wire on the distributer for #1 is pointed at cyl 1. it just cranks and cranks but only back fires out of the tail pipes and outta the carb. heres the how my distributer looks like

350 sb with HEI

either restab the distrib 180 or run the plug wires 180 out you have it on tdc exhaust more than likely

thanks ill give it a whirl tomorrow mornin. ill post up and see were im at:icon_thumby::beer:

did the 180 turn now all it does is crank, no backfire through the carb; nor through each tail pipe. it also does not fire. hmmm what to do?

is it on an electric fuel pump, may be fluded, did that the first time i was trying to crank my 289, shut the electric fuel pump off, and it fired right up, and also i use a black marker on for the #1 post on the body of the distributor to help line it up with the cap off

got her runnin, i had the ignition wire in the wrong slot lol

yea. i got a new problem. it runs and idles fine. as soon as a get on it a little it backfires off the carb. the trucks timeing is dead on. im thinking its the air fuel mixture

People have used timing lights for years to get timing where it needs to be. Nothing wrong with it.

Backfireing through the carb? Probely the other not getting enough fuel when the other 2 barrels open...im assuming its a quadrajunk carb?

If it were me id throw the quadrajunk away and get an edelbrock.

later,
dustin
