im tryin to get my hands on a 351m with c6 trans and was wonderin if the stock 7.5 rear end will take that or will i be breakin axles everytime i get a lil nuttin on the back roads?:icon_confused:

you'll twist that 7.5 into a ball with even a mild v-8. the 8.8 explorer axle is almost a direct swap and is as strong as a 9".

Not necessarily...

I think a 7.5 would give a wheezer 351M the finger for a while... at least until the spider gears broke.

My 7.5 never broke behind my 302 and I tired... It was welded though..

Location???

Wherebouts you located?

I've got an 92 Explorer 8.8 L/S w/3.73 gears ready to roll under a Ranger, as it's got 94 Ranger leaf springs w/shims on it...........$300 in SE Tennessee...

If it breaks you'll either kill the carrier or twist teeth off. If you weld the carrier it will hold some decent power. The 28 spline 8.8 uses identical shafts to the 7.5. I have a 28 spline 8.8 behind my stroker with zero failures, you'll be fine with the 7.5 until it breaks and when that happens a Ranger 8.8 is bolt on and you won't have any problems. Yes the Explorer 8.8 is nice but if you are killing a 28 spline 8.8 a stock 31 spline isn't going to be much better.

Don't pay more than scrap value ($125 a ton) for a 351M. They're pretty well worth nothing.

Even though the explorer rear is like 3 inches wider, it still sat down right on my leaf springs, I have to get the springs rearched because it bottems out every 30 seconds cause i never flipped the spring perches to the top

And you get get a l/s 8.8 with 3:73's for 45 bucks in PA at the scrap yard by me... You might be able to find a 4:10 one too

if you are 4WD i got the C6 you are looking for and the NP205 that goes behind it...I only got small block 2wd C6's

A windsor will fit a lot better than the M. IIRC the C, and the M use the big block bell housings don't they. If they do thats a lot to stuff in there. I used a C-6(small block) and it is a little tight....

The 351C's use the same mounts and bell as the Windsors. The 351M and 99.9% of the 400's use the big block bell. There were a few 400's cast with the small bell pattern.

Yeah the 351M uses the big block pattern, it is a destroked 400M. I have also heard of small block pattern 400s but I have never seen one.

sweet i cant wait to put it in and ill put a 9" in just to play it safe cuz this truck will be doing sum hard launches lol well atleast well i get my license bak in november but i found a 302 that is alil cheaper and with gas the way it is plus i no 302's alil btr thanks u guys for your help.:3gears::headbang:

My 5.0 with the huffer behind it hasn't broke a thing in the drivetrain yet, even with the 33's under it. That's a solid ~350 ft/lbs+ on a grabby launch, and I haven't had a SINGLE problem. I need to get a set of ladder bars for it, but that's a different story.

Edit: It's the 7.5" rear, P.S.

I have literally pounded the daylights out of my 7.5 and had no failures. Many of the guys around here that are racing their 5.0L Rangers are using 7.5's. I know of one guy that has been using his only for racing for the last 5 seasons and he only broke the 7.5 incher when he was running a manual trans. He's running a C6 and 150 shot. Late last year he was throwing the idea of twin turbos around so we'll see how long that 7.5 lasts...
