I bought a 98 Mazda B4000 with 180,000 miles from a friend with a blown trans. I bought a used trans with just over 100,000 miles on it. I replaced the valve body gasket before I put it in and put in a new torque converter. At what point will I see fluid coming out of the line? I've got 3 quarts put into the dipstick and another 1.5 quarts I put in through the top port on the rad and the line that goes to that port. I'm afraid to put anymore down through the dipstick because its already over 1" above the cross hatched section on the dipstick. I know this pig takes like 12 quarts or something, should I just keep firing in the quarts? I would think that by now the pump would be moving fluid through the lines. This is my first delve into auto trannys and my first ford. Could the pump be bad?

I may have figured it out after some reading on here. I think its a TC not being seated problem. When I was putting up the trans i had a hell of a time doing it as I did it by myself and had to coax it onto the dowels with the bolts. Would this cause it to not move in any gear as well?

Yep. Probably smoked the pump too.

Thats not something I like to hear, but I think I paid $100 for the trans. I'm going to drop it this Sunday. I'll check it out while its down. If its bad, I'll most likely just buy a reman.

IF you installed everything properly , it is quite normal to not have cooler flow at idle with these trannys. Rev up the engine to about 1500 . Always had issues trying to perform a trans flush with those flush machines that connect to the cooler lines.

These transmissions have an internal thermostat that prevents fluid from being pumped through the cooler lines until the transmission is up to operating temp.

Yeah I destroyed the pump. The shaft is scored and the inner gear was burred up and cracked. The T/C didnt survive either. Next time, I won't try to throw this up by myself like a manual trans.
