5r44e or 5r55e??

I was at college today and it is time to do the tranny filter and oil change so i had went on the AllData information and it had said my 04 3.0L had a 5R44E
but when i went to get all the parts i needed from good ol napa their system said it was a 5R55E which AllData said that was only for the 4.0


does the 3.0 come with both 5r44e and 5r55e ?

dont mean to jack the thread but what is the difference between a 5R44E and a 4R44E??

the 5r55/44e is a 5 speed. 4r44 is a 4 speed. 5r55e is a 4.0 trans

5R44E is a 5 speed trans rated at 440 lbs of input, 4R44E is a 4 speed trans rated at the same input.

the 5R55E is a 5 speed rated at 550lbs of input thus making it a stronger trans, it uses a 6 planet gear set while the 5R44E uses a 3 planet gear set and also has one more clutch in the clutch pack. other then that its pretty much the same trans.

but what do i know, its not like i have ever had one apart lol

only difference is one more gear, but there is not really one more gear, it combines other gears to make it a 5 speed.

the 5R44E and 4R44E are not interchangeable as there is a output shaft speed sensor on the 5R44E and the PCM looks at this for shift data.

anyway, its the same filter and gasket, the only difference is weather its a 4x4 or 4x2. the 4x4 has a deeper pan.

ok lol good to know kinda thought the 4wd was deeper but still i got both filters since i wasnt sure.

Ah hah I knew there was a 5r44e! 4x4Rangerguy and Lil Ranger were trying to tell me there was no such thing in this thread.
