So I've got a 92 ranger, has the 5.0L out of a 93 mustang that's been converted to carbureted, 4x4 and had an AOD trans. I finally came across a 97 f150 with the M5OD-R2 Transmission also 4x4... I bought the truck have both transmissions out and now just wondering what to do about a clutch and flywheel, starter and what if anything else do I need to purchase and most importantly what year make and model of vehicle do I order the parts to fit? If that all makes sense?
Anyhow, any/all help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance and have a great day!!!!

Since nobody else has posted all day I'll point you in somewhat the direction I know even though I haven't done the swap... The explorer guys over on explorerforum.com have apparently taken a 5.0/Auto and turned it into a manual one guy started going T-5 another M5OD-R2, don't know that they finished or sold it before finish or abandon and went other route... Other than the chances that someone included more details than I remember in one of the swap articles here I didn't find much on site. Another place to look is ford-trucks.com, more geared towards the F-series those guys have more info on what is essentially a fullsize truck engine+trans combo, a few hits there came up on google.

might try googling some keywords plus "site:therangerstation.com" or ford-trucks.com, explorerforum.com, etc - something like "5.0 Auto to M5R2 swap site:therangerstation.com"

One thing I found in my 2 quick googles was that the M5OD-R2 (also called M5R2 by others) is a little too big, most folks are talking 1" body lift to make it fit. Given the M5OD-R1 and R2 both use concentric (hydraulic) slaves, I think you could order all the clutch parts for a 97-F150 and then just use your Ranger master with the f150 slave, but that is a guess.... worst case the fittings aren't right and you end up needing to adapt or the bore X stroke is so wrong it wont work and you have to use a F150 master.

The tech articles here have several hits for the 5.0 explorer swap (typically auto), but some might have some info I haven't dug into...

I recently put a 73 302 and m5odr2 in my 98 ranger. I used a 164 tooth flywheel for a 302 / 5.0, this Clutch this Starter You'll have to drill or ream out the bolt holes in the bell housing to match the sae bolts for the 5.0 engine as well.

This is the Slave cylinder I used. I converted to stainless clutch hoses as well as I have problems with packrats chewing on wires and hoses where I live. If you have any questions fire away as I'm still tinkering with mine.

Hey, thank you sir! All input is certainly appreciated!! My ol'ladys been on my ass for probably 2 years to get her truck finished so I reckon it's time to do so before she divorces my ass! Hahaha

Yeah, we've got pack rats around here too! Did you have to have any sort of adapter plate or cross member or anything extra? What bout drive lines?

My truck is a standard cab, 2 wheel drive. I used the plate style engine mounts with 4.0 v6 rubber mounts. I had to slot the holes on the factory trans crossmember (mine was an m5odr1 previously). I used the stock rubber trans mount. I also used the factory drive shaft unmodified. I'm not sure about an auto trans crossmember though.
The packrats here are terrible, I've killed about 300. They ate through the trans shift boot and trashed the interior while the truck was sitting waiting for parts.

Really I'm probably kinda retarded goin back through all this crap, I was Sooooo close to having it up and driving and I got pissed off at that damned AOD, so I ripped it out and found this manual to throw in... I had custom built a cross member, drive lines, my exhaust is all ran, now I'm just crossing my fingers that I won't have to rerun my exhaust at the very least....

Yeah my cross member is totally homemade... I found the truck and someone had already started the swap and lost interest so it was missing quite a few parts and pieces, I think they wanted to just make a wheeler cause they ripped every wire out of the truck but I've got most of that put back to stock, the only electrical that's still not working is the power windows and locks....

I went with the holley sniper efi so I got rid of the factory ecu, airbag system, and a ton of wiring which was chewed up anyways.

I'm by kingman, AZ. I live up in the mountains totally off grid. It's very remote, solar power, haul my own water, etc.

I just went carbureted for now, I've got a fitech I was thinking bout putting on there but I just figured I'd try and keep it simple till it's running and driving, then maybe I'll do a throttle body efi or somethin...
