Yessir, was that the "Predator"? If so it can turn over 8,000 RPM and makes around 300 HP!!! Scarey piece of equipment 'eh???
Meanwhile my plans have changed one final time...
New motor... the "final" chapter in the GM 215 story...
As you know, Rover bought the production rights from GM back in 1965 and began producing the 215 as a 3.5 liter for I believe the '67 model year.
They continued to develop the little aluminum V-8 through the first years of the new millenium. It reached it's full factory potential in the 4.6 liter variant.
There are other versions as well, released in other countries or offered to the public by independent auto makers up to a 5.0, still all aluminum.
I just bought a 1998 Range Rover 4.6 motor with 82k miles which will reside in the engine bay of the "Silver Bullet" in place of the Buick 215. The factory specs are 225 hp @ 4750 and 280 ft lbs @ 3000 rpm. Not bad for a stock pushrod motor. Oddly it's the same size as the current Mustang GT at just 281 cubes. It won't likely be as fuel efficient as the 215 but it should be impressive.
I read on one of the British V-8 sites that with a little "tuning" it will easily produce 275 flywheel hp. The Rover variant is heavier than the Buick but is still only 375 lbs complete, (small block Chevy is 575 lbs), and starting with the 4.0 in '95 are a 4 bolt main block.
The 2 additional main bolts are cross bolts. It has a 3.7" bore and 3.2" stroke. I may run a remote turbo in the future so I like the idea of the beefier block. I'll post some pics once I receive it.
I haven't been on in awhile due to my work schedule and home projects but I WILL be progressing on the project as soon as time allows.
Stay tuned...
Mike
