4x4 vs 4x2 ???

is 4x2 only 2wd either front or rear with 1 differential ???
and 4x4 4wd and 2wd with 2 differentials ???

Sorta.

A 4x2 stands for a 4-wheeled vehicle with only two wheels powering it.
A 4x4 stands for a 4-wheeled vehicle with all 4 wheels powering it.
A 2WD is the same thing as a 4x2.

4wd is regardless weather or not you have an open,ls, or locked differentials.
you could have a 4x4 with both front an rear differentials open
or a 4x4 with both front an rear differentials LOCKED.. either way you look at it its a 4x4

Also, a 4x4 is usually 4x2 anyway. You're not going to use 4wd all the time, only when you need it.

yea. only time 4x4 isnt all wheeels getting power is if you have open diffs, and your turning/some of the wheels dont have traction

A stock 4wd ranger is really only a 2wd. Its because since the diffs are open your really only giving power to 1 tire in the rear and 1 in the front lol. So in all honesty its only 2wd. Put a locker in it then it becomes a 4wd. Thats my theory lol.

With a L/S in the rear, we could call it 2.75x4, as a factory limited slip shouldn't be referred to as fully driving both drive wheels, if that makes sense...
