4X4 Ranger Edge Standard cab 4.0??

Thanks man! I was looking at something around 02 or newer. I think I'll have to go with the 3.0 and just take it to my uncles performance shop and install some of the Ebay headers, intake and exhaust. That should wake it up a little.

I just emailed a carlot in Alabama about a 2005 Edge, black, standard cab 3.0 4x4, manual trans, rubber floormat, sliding rear window. EVERYTHING I could want except that 4 liter.. Oh well, you can't win em all...

I appeciate the thoughts guys!

Hopefully I'll be back with some pics of a new truck soon! :icon_thumby:

Are they available? YES

Are they common? NO

But they pop up now and again, just gotta keep an eye out.

After days of searching for them for sale and just looking for pictures to see if they even exist, I was under the impression that they were never built in that configuration. I know from Fords website, you can't order one the way I want it at the present time.

I did look around at the Splash versions and they are offered in that configuration, but I'm not interested in a stepside bed. I know, I'm picky... :icon_twisted:

Just as a reminder, I am speaking of 01 or newer basically..

Thanks for the helpful advice Mtnrgr! I'll keep that in mind.

I can't see how headers would'nt help though. They retain less heat, flow better than cast manifolds, correct? I'd think so. BUT I'm not a professional drag racer or anything..

A tuner would likely be one of my very first purchases, as I know how manufacturers choke these engines back for emissions standards with the engine management computers..

What pulleys do you speak of? I understand the concept, just not which one being changed would yield an increase in horsepower?

Got any good links to performance parts for the 3.0??

GB :)

Say, that's a pretty swet link man! Thanks!!

Now that I know what pulleys are being replaced, I understand the benefits that are gained, much more clearly. The only problem I see with that is the belt might not be readily available just anywhere if you happened to need another one in short order.. Being an inch shorter, the guys at your local Vatozone might look at you kinda sideways.. :icon_rofl:

I'll keep you in mind man. :icon_thumby:

I'm waiting to hear back from that car lot down south about the truck. If they won't negotiate on the price a little (I have the entire amount in cash) then I won't be flying down there to get it.. If I do buy it, then I'll be ordering some performance stuff a day or two after buying the truck.

I hope to hear back from them tomorrow...

Well hell.. After reading these forums for hours on end, I may not be interested in a 3.0 at all. I did test drive an automatic 3.0 X-cab 4x4 once a couple years ago. It would'nt spin a tire while powerbraking it, but the acceleration seemed ok otherwise.

Whatever I decide, I'll still be around..

Thanks again guys!

Why don't you get a splash then find a short-bed? picky is as picky does.

I wanted a 4cyl 5spd, step-side 4x4 ext cab so bad........... talk about a tough one to find!!!!
I went with an ext cab, 4x4, 5spd, 4.0 and I'm glad I did, it's a hella nicer truck than my original plans called for, and I found one with 50k and a cherry body and paint.

After about 2000 I think, the 4.0 was not available in a regular cab and a 3.0 was not available in a 4x4 Supercab.
My neighbor has a '98 regular cab Off-Road with a 4.0 that he bought new.
My old '99 was a 3.0/stick/4x4 Supercab. Here it is very hilly and on the highway it was so slow that it was downright dangerous. Someplace where it is flat and it might not be so bad. Very good on gas for a 4x4, I'll say that.
The 3.0 is a very durable engine that will run forever but it is kind of underpowered for use in a Ranger, especially the heavier 4x4.
The 4.0, either one, has a lot more power but is a gas hog. On the older 4.0 OHV the head gaskets are a bit iffy and there's a good chance they'll need replaced by 100,000 miles but otherwise it's very durable. The 4.0 SOHC doesn't have any long-term problems that I'm aware of. My sister just traded in her 4.0 SOHC '99 Explorer with about 170,000 miles, other than oil changes she never did a thing to it and never had a problem with the motor.

I just can't hardly stand the look and feel of the X-cab Ranger for some reason. Another thing is, the whole point of me spending 10K is to get a nice truck for once in my life, that's already ready to go, and everything I've always wanted all at the same time. One that, when I see her, I know we were meant to be.... :icon_rofl:

Everyone in my little hometown has the X-cab Ranger it seems like.. I'd like to have something a little different.

I know I have some hard to meet expectations. I'd also like to have a pristine Unimog for around the same money, but we all know that aint gonna happen..

I emailed the guy about the fiberglass stepside bed Ranger in nothern Il. The Shadow Ranger I think it's called. I got no reply..

GB :)

Thanks for that info! It's looking like Ford just doesn't offer what I'm looking for. That's unfortunate. For them and me both..

GB :)

Woah those guys were talking about greasing each other up to fit into a regular cab.
hehe

So they do make them, now to find the right person to kill, or offer to buy one and not let them know what they are holding!!!

Frank

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a 3.0/5 speed combination in a Ranger. Yes, the 4.0 is unquestionably faster, but the 3.0 is more than adequate, and reliable to a fault.
