God is great, beer is good, and rangers are awesome!
It's the first time, since I've owned the truck, that I attempted to turn on 4lo. 4 hi I use quite a bit, but when I switched it to 4 lo, nothing happened. Not the usual clicking in the dash, and the light in the cluster stays on 4hi. What am I doing wrong? Is it the switch?

I believe you have to be fully stopped and Trans in neutral to shift into 4 lo

Yeah. 2h and 4h are shift on the fly. 4 lo isn't. Manual transfer case is the same. Transfer cases aren't synchronized.

Yeah i figured it out, i have to have it in neutral, clutch AND brake down and then it shifted. I drove around the yard just to see if it works, it does! Im sure its the first time in its life that its been in 4lo, previous owner was old and only drove it to town and back. Owner before that idk, but I'm glad it works! The reason why i always put it off for so long is because i always heard these things getting stuck in 4low. Anywho, thanks!

Quick question, what's the ratio in 4lo? Idk if I'm asking the right question lol

Low Range is 2.48 to 1. (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/TransferCases.html)

As for engaging 4lo, you need to engage 4hi first, then make sure you are completely stopped, shift to neutral (automatic transmission only) then engage 4lo. If you have a manual transmission you can simply push in the clutch and shift to 4lo after shifting into 4hi. So much easier with manual shift 4x4 LOL, stop shift to neutral or press in clutch pedal, pull lever to 4 Lo LOL....course you would have to get out and turn the front hubs to the lock position if they weren't already locked...this is usually noticed after you are stuck in a mud hole LOL.
