My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
Ok. On know 4x4=4wd, but wtf is the difference between a 4x2 and a 2x4. I know a 2x4 generally is a piece of wood 1 3/4 " x 3 3/4 ":icon_thumby:. I'm not talking about that. I noticed in a post someone mentioned the 4x2 coil springs truck don't have the front crossmember that my 2wd Edge has.
I would think a 2x4 seats 2 and 4 wheels drive the vehicle, where a 4x2 has 4 wheels but only two drive the vehicle. OR is 2x4 and 4x2 the same damn thing.:dunno:

2x4 bothers some people.

Neither, unless you have lockers.

Grammatically 4x2 is more correct. Because it is X wheels driven by Y wheels.

So if you say 4x2 you are saying your vehicle has four wheels, two of which can be powered. If you say 2x4 you are saying your vehicle has two wheels, four of which can be powered. That doesn't make sense from a mathematical standpoint.

Also, 2x4 is a piece of wood.

Saw this coming
Well, woodn't you know. This thread has grown into forest of lumber puns.

This message composed solely of recycled electrons. Go green!

I prefer 6x4s myself.

To all previous posters, thanks for your lumbar support!

Technical point - if you go to the lumberyard and ask for some '4x2 slabs', they may look at you funny, but will figure out what you want pretty quick...

What about a 2x2. Seriously. Knot a piece of wood

Wood you guys knock it off.

A 2x6 would be cool :)

Technically most two wheel drives are 4x1's and four wheel drives are 4x2's.... Then there's all wheel drives which are 4x1's most of the time and 4x0 when you get stuck. But then if you have a rear locker on a four wheel drive it becomes a 4x3! If you have a limited slip its more like 4x2.5. But if you get stuck with a 4x1 you can strap 2x4's to the wheels to get unstuck (knock on wood). But never use a 4x4 on a 4x1...
