4x2 or 2x4

Ok. On know 4x4=4wd, but wtf is the difference between a 4x2 and a 2x4. I know a 2x4 generally is a piece of wood 1 3/4 " x 3 3/4 ":icon_thumby:. I'm not talking about that. I noticed in a post someone mentioned the 4x2 coil springs truck don't have the front crossmember that my 2wd Edge has.
I would think a 2x4 seats 2 and 4 wheels drive the vehicle, where a 4x2 has 4 wheels but only two drive the vehicle. OR is 2x4 and 4x2 the same damn thing.:dunno:

actually it's 1-1/2" x 3-1/2", been that for 50 years give or take a few. :annoyed:

In my barn it is still a 2x4. Back before they had laser guided everything lumber was what they said it was.

I'm already board of this thread...

Coming up with more wood puns is harder than you plank.

Maple I can think of some later.

And now we get to sheet goods. A 4x8 and 8x4 sheet if plywood are dependent on which way the grain runs which also determins the flexibility direction of the sheet. Being a retired stair builder we ordered a crap load of 8x4 plywood for curve and twist stairs.

What about the composite chipboard? Anything go?

They really don't have the structural stability and are much heavier than plywood. Stair stringers are built from 1/4 to 1/2 plywood it all depends on the inside radius of the stairs

My father in law had some stairs done with the composite stuff. No radius, just straight coming off his back porch (concrete slab)

Wood you guys just let this thread die...
