4x2 or 2x4

The terminology is: wheel ends by positions with powered distributed to.

So, 2wd truck is 4 wheel ends and 2 positions with power distribute to. Lockers/limited slips/dual rear wheels/central differentials/etc make no difference.

4wd is 4 wheel ends and 4 positions distribute power.

The tandem Ranger I am building is currently 6 x 2 - only the forward rear axle is powered as getting power to the aft axle requires some creativity.

6x4 truck usually has 2 rear axles powered, but powering the front axle and just one of the rear axles is another option.

Technically, an unpowered single axle trailer is 2 x 0. Most bicycles would be 2 x 1, but I have seen a 2 x 2 mtb!

I pine for the day that everyone will understand this.

reading all this just saps the energy right out of me.

What was the point of this thread? I'm stumped.

:icon_twisted: So, I picked up a 4x2 ranger and the first thing I need to do was pressure treat it to help prevent rot from being out side all the time. I still need to be careful because the splinters are murder when sitting on it... I mean in it. :icon_rofl:

Oh ya.....

This is definitely one thread that should be logged in the books for lumbering on about nothing

I wood take this post with a grain of salt... it leaves much to be desired.

I'm going to go against the grain and say this thread should have been nipped in the bud. but it has blossomed into a nonstop forest of lumber jokes.:yahoo:

At least it hasn't branched off into other places.

This message composed solely of recycled electrons. Go green!

I'll go out on a limb and say it has branched away from " wheels by wheels driven" and grown into a tree of jokes

I suppose that is the root of the issue.

Are you guys still trying to solve this? It seems that you can't see the forest for the trees.
