I got a bad leak comming from between the trans and the tcase.

I pulled the case and the adapter from the trans. How in the world do I get the output shaft out so I can get in there and replace the seal?

Does this whole trans need torn down?

hmm upon farther inspection there is a hole, which appears to have been broken out, not machined out between the two bottom most bolts for the adapter. I let the jack down and tilted the trans downward and fluid came rushing out. I jacked the trans back up so it was level and started the bii, no fluid came out anywhere with it in park. I would think if the seal was bad I would have gotten some fluid from around the outputshaft somewhere.

There is a "dam" type thing in the adapter with a hole thats plugged by the tcase when its bolted on. Makes me think it was designed to end up with fluid in there???

I circled the hole I am talking about. Is it supposed to be there or did it somehow get busted in there?

This is the first RBV auto trans ive delt with. Assuming that hole is supposed to be there, then trans fluid in the adapter like I had when I pulled the tcase is normal?

ATF is suppose to be there.

Not sure. I own a 5 speed, but when i took the transfer case off my tranny, there was no fluid between the extension housing and the tranny. but like i said, mines a 5 speed not auto...

Ive always had standards RBV's so I havent a clue. Only 4wd auto ive had has been my jeeps. I know they get know fluid back there.

Good to hear its normal, one less headache I have to worry about be for mem weekend
