yeah i found a mid 80-early 90's lincoln town car with a 460 that i would like to swap into a 1990 2.3l ranger. how hard is it going to be and where can i find a manual five speed to drop in. i'm planning to use the lincoln suspension and rear end as well as rims with new tires.

Try looking for a 87-98 F250 or F350 ZF transmission from behind a 460, that would be one place to look.

You could also put a T5 from a Mustang behind it, you just have to find the correct bellhousing.

:icon_rofl: Yea, and that would be the laugh of the century when it expodes the T-5 in the first 2 minutes.:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

You sure about the year ? I don't think Lincolns had 460's after about the 78-79 model year. I've never seen an 80's Lincoln with anything bigger than a 351W. And very few of those.

For a manual transmission behind a 460 in a 2wd Ranger, you'll want a Toploader 4 speed. Either a small block or big block unit, either will handle the torque of a 460.

It certainly wouldn't be my first choice either. But, it would fulfill the requirements of the OP, 5 speed and fit behind a 460.

I concur. The only 460 Lincoln I've seen after the seventies was a Presidential style limo.

If he's going to go thru the trouble of a 460, he may as well do it right and use either a Tremec 3550 or a Richmond 5 speed. The Toploader 4 speed would be the easiest and lowest cost route. Who in the hell cares about fuel mileage with a 460 swap anyway ? :icon_rofl:

I did a little research and and i was concerned that the guy was full of it, but he say he swapped in the engine and transmission from a 1996 f-250 or f-350. the only v-8 option for the town car in these years was the 351W or M i'm not quite sure which.

if its a 351m you might as well wrap a chain around it and throw it over a d@mn boat. there nothing but boat anchors. now ifs its a 351w or 351c your good. but why so big swap a 302 with a set of gt40 heads on it with a double pump holly or demon 4bbl carb. with like a 300lift cam and a set of headers shell be bad ass.

oh. it's definitley a 460 that had been swapped in. the guy wasn't lying about that but at first he tried to tell me that it was original. thank god for the internet though.
