We've seen people put 4.6L V8's in those Rangers which is a pretty big engine.

The 460 is 2"-4" longer than the 4.6L and 2"-3" narrower. Physical Size Comparison (Approximate):

Obviously, it's going to be different with your setup because the suspension and steering is different, but it's doable.
I would look at these so you understand what's involved in doing a V8 swap in that style Ranger:

Install – 2000 Ford Explorer 5.0 Into 1998 Ford Ranger

The Ford 4.6L (281 CID) Engine - The Ranger Station
Have you ever thought of stuffing a Ford 4.6L engine into your Ford Ranger. Here's some information that you may find helpful.

The 460 is 2"-4" longer than the 4.6L and 2"-3" narrower. Physical Size Comparison (Approximate):
- Length: The 460 is slightly longer, at roughly 32–34 inches, compared to the 4.6L's 28–30 inches. (5.0L Explorer is 27.5")
- Width: The 4.6L DOHC is actually wider or comparable to the 460. The 4.6L DOHC is approximately 30 inches wide (valve cover to valve cover), while the 460 is roughly 27–28 inches wide.
- Height: The 460 is generally taller than a 4.6L SOHC, but comparable to a 4.6L DOHC, with both sitting around 26–30 inches high.

I want to thank everyone on this board that has posted information to help me build my Ranger project. My intention for this vehicle is to participate in Hot Rod Drag Week this fall. I do not know if this will happen but I built the truck to their rules to run in the street race non power adder class. This class does not allow for the firewall or floor to be modified and made this swap more difficult. I have just started driving the truck this week. There are a few little problems but overall things seem to be going okay. It is perky.

Hopefully I can start my 460/C6 swap into my '93 this week.
I have two 460 motors, one than runs from a '70 Lincoln and the other that doesn't run from a '69 Lincoln. I bought the '69 motor mostly because of the complete FEAD on it. It has a short style water pump (there is no crank pulley, the belts ride in the balancer) and the crankshaft mounted power steering pump that I'm thinking about trying to use. The '70 has alternator and power steering brackets on it, but they are from another engine family and the belts don't line up perfectly like I want, but I may be able to get them to...
