Is it possible to swap a 4.6L v8 out of a mustang into a 94 ranger 2wd? Ive considered a 5.0 but it seems like the 4.6 is a much more modern and capable engine. Any help is much appreciated!
hey thanks baddis! im considering several options right now, the one im most interested in is a Diesel option, but the V8 sounds like something fun too... weel see
On the '97-earlier Rangers the steering box is in a BAD location. You'll have to change the box to one that mounts outside the frame or go to rack-n-pinion steering.
If you have the capability to change the steering, everything else should be easy.
I really don't see the point of a diesel Ranger. It has been mentioned here many times. So maybe it is just me.
If I wanted a snow plow truck or a tow rig, I would consider a diesel. I don't understand why anybody would want the added hassle and stench when they didn't need to.
I pull into my usual fuel depot and there is 8 gas pumps empty and one diesel pump with a truck at it. the price of diesel is still higher here then 89 but, less than 92. My antique 3.0 still gets better mileage per performance than any lifted truck I've ever been in.
I don't see why a 4.6 would be a bad option. sure it is a little tighter than a 5.0 but, a 5.0 isn't as easy as some might lead you to believe. a 4.6 is like an hours more work. when you're talking about like 100 hours worth of work 1 hour means nothing.
P.S. 281s Ranger is D.o.h.c. , s.o.h.c. is much easier.
I happen to prefer diesels, more bottom end torque, as much horspower when tuned properly. They turn out good enough fuel mileage enough to make up the cost of fuel in the first place, not that I have to worry about that as diesel is 20 cents a litre cheaper here anyways....If I could find a 4bta cummins around here with low hrs, or cheap enough I could rebuild, I'd do the diesel swap in a heartbeat.
