Looking at putting a 4.6l (automatic) into my 2008 ranger (currently 2.3l, manual shift)

Does anyone have current information on a company making a plug and play style wiring harness for....

1. Fuel Injection
2. Transmission
3. Interior stuff such as speedo, tach, temp, etc

Before anyone suggests that I should put in a 5.0, I would love to, but here in Ontario Canada, the engine being put into the truck can not be from a vehicle older than the actual truck....meaning since I am working with a 2008 Ranger the motor must be 2008 or newer.

Comments?

Eh? Doesn't the Raptor have a 5.4 as well?

Get a Helm's wiring manual and convince your self you really, really want to do this. As far as the wiring in a Mustang/Explorer, they now have three CPU's for engine managment, total of 170 pins. Ford from their FRPP division does sell a stand alone harness - CPU and the gas pedal and other related parts, made for installing in a Hot Rod.

put a 5.4 from an f150

Ok this does seem like a good suggestion, would the harness from the doner truck plug into my Ranger's chasis harness.

Might you know what type of custom wiring would need to be done?

What would I all need from donar truck?
1. Engine
2. Transmission
3. ECU

what else?

Drop a 5.4 in it. My brother in law has a 4.6 in his f-150 that he is selling and it has no power.

Your quick to modifiy a new ranger. I like the though of that.

I purchased the ranger as a stripped down version to save cost on things like bigger engine, transmission when the engine swap would be done. I bought the truck knowing the day the factory warranty was up I would stick a v-8 under the hood.

I have swapped many healthy GM engines into Jeeps over the years but this Ford thing is new to me. I never thought of the 5.4, now that I think of it....it just makes sense. The wiring has me a little nervous, I need input for this, the mechnical and fab work is a no brainer for me.

Wiring will be the biggest hassle as you will have to sit down and figure out the routing of everything and re-pin connectors and what not (if you want it to look factory)... You will have to do some cutting to fit a 4.6, 5.4 will be even worse... I say, since it's 2WD drop it down some, do a 4.6 DOHC and a T-56... Fun ride there...

idk if this is possible for you in canada with emissions, but ive seen in jegs that they make a carb manifold for the 4.6, so if you wanted to save on some wiring that is a possiblity

No power? You're nuts! The 4.6 F150 I test drove had more balls than the 5.4 I drove. Both were 2wd Super Crews.

If he needs a 2008 or newer motor, I'd go for the 4.6 3V Mustang (300HP) aluminum block and matching trans.

i second dave on the new 3vs idea. the new gts have great power and the engine is a good platform to build off of with plenty of aftermarket goodies out there

How much money are you wanting to put under the hood? If moneys not really an issue then the mustang motor would be my choice.

Wiring can be confusing but if you take your time and have a detailed wiring diagram then it is easy to do.
