4.56 gears from ranger (8.8)/ to explorer 8.8

just wondering if the gears from my ranger 8.8 (28 spline axles), can be swapped over to an explorer 8.8 with (31 splined axles)

The carriers won't interchange, but the gears will.

HOWEVER, the shims are likely to need adjustment (both at the carrier and the pinion), and you DON'T want to screw that up.
