Hello!
Bought my truck 3 years ago
1992 Ford ranger xlt
4.0l ohv 5 speed rwd
It had 215,000km when I bought, now at 315,000km!!
Still at 175psi compression on all 6 cylinders, I've replaced almost everything From water pump, thermostat, heater core, radiator, rad cap, power steering pump, fuel pump, alternator intake gaskets, ext..
Straight pipe with flowmaster super 40, sounds nice!
Gtr r32 17in rims with 235/55s
Replaced clutch, flywheel, slave and master cylinder with a spec stage 2, shifts great!
Also gutted most interior except dash, door panel, a/c delete, spare tire.. Approx 500lb in weight reduction!

Currently working on a custom Vortech supercharger kit, to run around 6lbs of boost!
Have bracket made for a/c delete to mount a Vortech v1,2 or 3!
Also will be using a 12:1 Vortech fmu with stock injectors until I get bigger ones n figure out where or how to tune her!
AEM wideband
Digital boost gauge
255 walbro replaced my new oem fuel pump
All installed, just waiting on my Vortech v1 s-trim to arrive.. N I'll be bolting her on hooking up oil lines air intake, intercooler with bov get right size belt and i should be boosting!

When my head goes.. I would like to port my heads get a cams, forged internals headers, 42 lb injectors n turn it up a bit...

Also need a locker for my rear end, currently a 8.8 3.08 one tire burner!

And suspension/ steering, body will be last!

Let me know what u think!
Anything helps I'm still tryin to figure it all out, my main thing is tuning... And timing advance!!

Nice. You'll want to grab a block from a 97 to build so you can build while you drive. I suggest going to OBD2 for tuning, much more tunability than the OBD1 (same route I'm going with a 94 ranger I'm building). Start a build thread...

Might as well go with the 98 block. Get a little more meat around the edges and the 8 bolt flywheel.

I didn't say use the 98 heads.lol

The 97 model year is hit or miss as far as the heavier block goes.

92 heads ohv

And what's wrong with the 92 heads??
I mean I'm at 175psi with 315,000km driven hard, no leaks or ticking noise!
Idles at 14.7, wot 12.5!
Blows every other stock ranger out of the water, that I have raced.

90-94 heads are very prone to cracking. You may not show signs, but when you tear em down, you'll see it...

90-92 heads are different from 92-94 heads
and 1993-94 heads are far less crack prone to 1990-92 heads

1995-up heads have the smaller "fast burn" combustion chambers

Were I building a Blown 4.0, my personal impulse would be to build it on
a 1993-94 block but use 95-up heads. This would lower the mechanical
compression ratio. The blower is far more efficient at creating pressure than the pistons are...

Mechanical compression is the enemy of a blown (or turbocharged) engine.

I have a Detroit Truetrac in my 8.8 diff. Its awesome on the street and gravel rds! Couple of times while 4x4ing Ive been a little disappointed when one tire was in the air or very little weight on it. Ive ran Fords limited slips, mini spool/welded spider gears and now Truetrac. If it were strictly an offroad truck Id weld it or use a proper locker. I like the Truetrac best for all around use. No clutches to wear out or slip at full throttle and doesnt do anything funny like ratcheting lockers do when Im on/off the gas. As far as gearing goes - depends what you want your top speed to be lol. Definitely get rid of the 3.08s though!

^You sir are backwards. 95 heads on a 93-94 block will RAISE the comp. The 95+ pistons have a larger dish to make up for the smaller combustion chamber and the head.

95-97 are the heads to have, the "fast burns" as Allen stated. For blown apllications, forged internals are the way to go. I'm getting a 97 motor, ecu and harness out of the yard and seeing how much boost the stock block will handle with piston cooling, intercooled and probably water meth. Not planning on more than 12-15 lbs of boost, with a proper tune of course...

Like I said the 95 heads with "Fast burn" shape have smaller combustion chambers. The pistons have a larger bowl to make up for this.....so if the 95 head with the smaller volume is combined with the older pistons that have a smaller bowl...you will increase compression (by around 10%)...I plan on this very combo with 5-7 psi and water meth. Should be safe to run pump gas (fingers crossed)

If you are planning on that kind of boost...I would recommend head studs for sure as well has upgraded hardware in the bottom end. Give me a shout if decide to go the ARP route. I can give you the part numbers for everything you will need from ARP since there is no "Kit" offered by them...and the dealers just put individual parts together and double the price.

Also...the SOHC pan is a bolt on upgrade since it has an integrated main girdle. You will need all the SOHC hardware and the two piece SOHC oil pickup tube/screen.

EDIT: The engine cross member will need some trimming though...or lift the engine a touch..

Fuel injected 460 sounds easier and a hell of alot more torque. Silly little boys wasting money on little motors that are going to go BOOM!
