hey guys, i was looking through some moog books at a autoparts store, and i saw that the 4.0L and the 3.0L take 2 different coil springs. right now i have a 2003 3.0L with the 5 speed and a 118" wheelbase.

will the 4.0L springs fit? and would i get any type of lift? im not looking for anything great here, maybe an inch if that. but the truck has 150,000 on it with the original springs, so i wanted to change them anyway.

thanks!

They will fit, however, they will be a little stiffer ride than what you have now, and yes, it will give you a small amount of lift, depending on how much your original springs have settled

I don't recall the years for coil springs, but providing his is coil sprung, this would apply...If Torsion bar, I believe they but use the same thickness bar

Torsion bars only come on the 4x4's, later Sports, some Edges, the Trailhead edition. All others got the coil springs regardless of year. The 2000 Ranger manual actually shows nine different coil springs, three different torsion bars and five different rear springs. They are all computer selected based on CGWV and such.

I would say very little lift, if any. I have 4.0 coils in the '95 w/4-banger. I got almost nothing and the truck had over 180K on it when this was done. I didn't "really" need a lift, but figured if I was replacing a broken spring I might as well. I started looking into cost and decided that I didn't want to spend the extra money on lift coils.

I would think for all intensive purposes both springs are the same for a 2wd 3.0 and 4.0.

well i dont know about authentic ford numbers... but i was looking threw the moog coil spring book... the 2.3 is #80664, the 3.0 is #80662, and the 4.0 is #80660

so as far as the moog springs are concerned, they are different.

tonight i plan on measuring from the center cap to the fender and see how tall it is now.

but until then, can anyone tell me what the average/normal distance is? i know the old jeeps sit around 18" stock.... is the rangers about the same?

ok finally got to measure the center cap to fender distance. i got 19.5" on each side... is that about normal for a ranger?
