Hey guys,
We are in the middle of a 4.0 v6 to 302-V8 swap.
So, we are swapping the M5r1 to an M5R2.
This is a '91 Supercab 4x4.

The red 2 conductor plug is on both trannies...I assum this is the back-up light switch?

The black 2 conductor plug is on the R1 but not the R2?
I saw in the tech forums, this is the NSS...neutral switch?

This is a 4x4...and I am going to put a 1356 transfer case behind the tranny.
Will I need to jumper the NSS switch for the electronic transfer case shift to work?
I assume the neutral switch is used to make sure you are in neutral before you swith to 4L?

Also, any advice on driveshafts would be great.

Thanks for any help.
Ernie

Yes, the red plug is the backup lights. The other plug is the connector to the VSS which is next to the speedometer cable on the trans. case. Your 1356 may not have this connection if it is the slip yoke type (circa 1994). There is no NSS on the M5ODR2.

There is an article in the Tech section on how to switch to the one piece rear driveshaft which is what I did for my swap. That change is pretty simple if your T/C does not have the slip joint on the rear. The front drive shaft had to be shortened on my swap and because I am using a NP205 I had to buy a different front yoke for the T/C to connect to the double cardan driveshaft. Denny's Driveshaft has a lot of information on how to measure the shaft lengths properly and they sell all the stuff you need to make it work.

I originally planned on using a 1356 from a 1994 F150 and it would have just barely fit, but due to the slip joint issue and loss of speedometer connection I changed plans. It is still laying here in the truck bed.

Thanks for the info....
I must have misread something somewhere...
I thought the 1356 had the speedo cable gear?
I also thought I could use the electric shift by switching my shift motor to the 1356.

I haven't put my hands on one yet, but some of my local yards say they have them.

I may hit you up for some more questions...since you have got your 302 on the road.
What did you do to run the Duraspark ignition?
Again...I had read that the Duraspark would plug "luckily" plug right into the Ranger wiring harness...I shouldn't have believed it would be that easy.
I don't see where the "Brainbox" from the '84 donor F150 will plug into the Ranger harness?
Still shouldn't be too difficult...but then some of the schematics I find show putting a ceramic resisitor in the circuit like the old 70's Chryslers had?
