4.0 swap...

@PetroleumJunkie412 ,
Having driven a couple stock OHV 4.0l's in Explorer Sports, they feel torquie enough. I expect that it will like the increased comp, lift, flow and reduced load but I still need to drive it like a truck ..)

My new one is force feeding an overhead cam, as soon as mod box decides to ship me my kit. One of the least exciting engines I've ever driven. Hopefully this helps a lot. Getting passed by Kias and Nissan Altimas tends to bruise ones ego quite a bit

Im going to definitely have the exhaust re ran with smaller tubing. i will still run dual exhaust as the flowmaster i have is dual in and out 2.5"... but going to run reducers on it. I did the exhaust myself and just used what i had laying around.

The JBA's, Borla and Edelbrock TES we're the best made for the Ford 60° 2.9l. I lived just up the street from JBA in Orange county at the time, it was easier to get them then.

What is great is both set that I have look just about like they did after the first time I used them; they were even wrapped in heat jackets...good to go. I remember on of my automotive mentors commenting about how nice he thought they looked (choice of metal, the welds and the finish).

There were a couple other companies. If they weren't stainless, the the ceramic coated may be the only other design that may last this long.

I can tell you that you could look into the 98+ 4.0l OHV exhaust manifolds. They used smaller exhaust ports on those heads and the manifold inlet it the same size as the 2.9l's aftermarket headers. I know that the bolt pattern is also the same so the 98 spec 4.0 OHV. That makes their manifold and header markets available for your build.

Not sure tbh.

I have been told that the pacesetter ones were awful. No idea.

Jba was a direct bolt on with no issues on a 1988 x cab

In regards to the compatibility between 2.9l headers and 98(+) spec OHV 4.0l stock exhaust manifolds (these look like HEADERS and flow pretty darn good) or headers...go to your local Napa, Shuck's/O'Reilly's/Checker's and compare the exhaust manifold gasket of both engines (that was how I learned) 🙃🙂🙃

What year 4.0 v6 would work best in my 87 bronco II 5sp manual
I used a 93 4.0 in my 86 with a 91 wiring harness. I didn't know it then but the 91 didn't have an egr so I just blocked the port off. I'd avoid the later overhead cam engines. I wanted to do one of those but that timing chain setup, plus the overall size of the motor, makes a regular V8 a better swap.
