4.0 swap...

Nope I have searched everywhere. I got the flat top 2.8s and they were cheap! Im use to my TT LS 420ci and my 598 BBC N20 motors. I love building this little 2.9!! I did have the cam reground. Im still trying to find someone who can add alittle lift to the rocker arms but no luck yet. I have the new heads milled .033 or .035. and have port match all the intake from upper to lower and lower to head. new 14lb injectors instead of the 13.3lb stockers

Merkur intake is a plus. Same with a 1992 high strength lower intake.

I have my megasquirt tunes loaded on here, as well as a research page for stuff that's been done to them in Europe.

@NickMBroncoII1987 ,
When I dropped of the parts at the machine for the full bottom end balance I mentioned to the machinist that there could be some issues with the skirts.

I had followed Sven Pruett's guidance best I could afford. I removed all casting, markings, stampings, all 90° edges were chamfered, even the previous balance work was blended out.

After I was done I had the machine shop knife edge and polish it prior to the full bottom end balance. This may has been why the machinist reported no issues with the skirts.

Sorry to learn of your issue but if what I did was the solution, may that will resolve your issue too.

what are the advantages of the merkur intake... is this aftermarket or from a different vehicle?

The Merkur can flow more air, it does not help make more torque, it only lets it rev a little higher, making like 3hp more. If you want more flow the 2 things that work are as follows:
1) have your stock 87 throttle body bored to plus 4mm
2) have the stock USDM 2.9l intake manifold rebuilt so that the inlet is strait, removing the bend to the passenger side.

My machinist buddy will happily perform either or both. I can assist you with cores if you are interested.

I am going to the machine shop tomorrow to look again.. i wasnt there today when the finally tried to rotate the assembly in the block. Im hoping we can just remove the crank and deburr

how are you getting the tunes into the pcm?
I went with a megasquirt system. Aftermarket PCM. Much more better. Plug your laptop in and go. It does have its quirks though. Including a learning curve if your computer savvy, and a very steep learning curve if you are not

I don't mean to unsensationlize how much material I removed. After I was done, I was scared I had ruined it. The machinist informed me that it looked like good work but he did concede that I took as much as I dared.

Having picked it up before and after, it was very easy to tell the difference. It certainly looked nicer 🤔

@PetroleumJunkie412 ,
Both good and bad. Currently, picking up the pieces 🙃

I am attempting to apply all of Sven's guidance to the OHV 4.0l. I really don't love it. However, if in the end it realizes 80% of my goal it will have been worth it. Still shooting for 35mpg in the BII, using a 94 SFI engine and ECM, still working on the new build (keep forgetting my priorities).

I hear you on both parts.

Man... I have one on an engine stand. Can't bring myself to do anything with it. It's just.... meh.
