3]use stock motor mounts?
4]will i need the 4.0 rad
5]are the 2.9 and 4.0s bellhousing pattern the same
6]will any custom fab work or modification to anything have to be done

1]what years did the ranger/explorer get the 4.0? - 90-2001ish, you'll want 95 or older - OBD1.

2]can i use the stock harness and plug and play into the 4.0? - On an '88, no, there will be some splicing

3]use stock motor mounts? Yes. They did change them tho, however, I don't know what year...

4]will i need the 4.0 rad? Yes

5]are the 2.9 and 4.0s bellhousing pattern the same? Yes

6]will any custom fab work or modification to anything have to be done? No

7]im 14 dont have a garage like some of you guys got i just got a shed with only about 200bucks worth of tools, can it still be done? Anything can be done fool

All good answers. Only thing I'll add is 94 or older for OBD-1.

95's kind of a changeover year, with the OBD-2 computer but uses some OBD-1 components for diagnostics. I really don't understand how it's all wired on a '95, but the '95 2nd gen Explorer I looked at for sale a month or so ago had an EEC-IV test port under the hood.

Odd...:icon_confused:

It all gets confusing after that..

where is the computer located on the ranger?

Behind the passenger side kick panel

I gotta agree with Black BII...anything can be done. I was like you (except 17 and I have a welder) when I did my SBC swap in to my 86. Just keep at it and never let a screw up or set back get you of track of the final goal.

Good luck.
