4.0 SOHC head gaskets/timing chains


That's interesting. The exhaust uses bolts on my OHV. I did have to get some different length for the Ranger manifolds vs the Aerostar ones.
 
How about the flex plate bolts? I've read that they are TTY but many here have just re-used them and use the old torque spec from the OHV that weren't TTY bolts of 52ft lbs with loctite (and no TTY sequence)? Those darn things are $15 a piece!
 
This has got to be a typo right? The manual says the block and heads need to be flat within .0004". I'm thinking they meant to write .004"? I hope, if not I'm screwed haha

Go with the metric measurement, and cross reference. My bet is on .004....
Turns out it is .0004"

The measurement of .0004 is for the straight edge, not the block or heads!
You could put a straight edge up against a piece of glass to check the straightness with feeler gauges.

Yeah, a "straightedge" for checking heads is kind of special.

Don't be using your wooden ruler from 3rd grade.
