i remember reading something about this a while back. but i searched and looked through the tech pages and couldn't find it.

i have a 2.9 b2 with a leaking radiator, figured if i have to replace i might as well replace with something bigger and better.

I did the 4.0 Explorer radiator swap into my 1990 B2, and it really was a slam-dunk drop-in. Sorry, but I can't say for sure on yours, though, being that it's a "mostly 87" (haha- I love that!) first-gen truck. The thicker radiator sure made mine happier in the hot summer time; a very worthwhile upgrade.

Radiator for '94 4.0L Explorer with auto trans (what I have in my BII). You'll also need the lower hose for an auto trans truck to go with it (stock upper hose is fine, although some have reported it being a bit close to the alternator pulley. Mine is fine however).

I know this is an old thread but i am thinking about doing this later this week. so the stock 2.9L upper hose worked for you 4x4junkie? cause the upper hose inlet on the 2.9L radiator is stright and the one on the 4.0L radiator points away from the radiator at an angle towards the passanger side.

It's a small angle, but it didn't present an issue (the hose being slightly crooked on the fitting shouldn't hurt it). I don't know what brand hose is on mine though (I doubt it's factory on an almost 20 year old truck).

thanks, i did the swap the same day i did the post. my radiator was cloged and i didn't know it. it fix perfect. only problems i had was the clips that hold the shroud were to far apart but the trans cooler lines hold it in place just fine, the shroud had to be installed turned sideways then turned back the correct way because of the water pump pully. its a snug fit but looks good and works well.

sorry its been way too long since i've been online.

update,
M50D tranny swap is finally complete, now making a custom 4x4 lever.
still looking for a 4.0 explorer radiator, i'm taking my b2 to phx in a few weeks as my DD. so keeping it cool is going to be a big thing.
