So on saturday Im picking up a 03 with a H&M LT kit and Giant linked rear end and it has been fully caged. I like everything about it except for one aspect. Its a 3.0, I do plan on using it as a play toy at Ocotillo, Glamis, and other places and maybe enter a sportsman class race or 2. Only problem for me though is Im really going to be down on power. I wanted to know if you guys had any good ideas of things to do for it. I do have to keep it street legal though. Any ideas on work I can do to it to at least bring me somewhat back up to the level of the others until I can do an engine swap?

3.0s aren't really that bad, you just have to remember they like RPMs.

Do a SOHC 4.0swap. If you can afford to race it then a motor swap should be no biggie.

^ keep the 3.0 the 4.0 hates reving. Plus if u do a throttle body spacer, cold air intake, and some exhaust work the 3.0 is faster.

Run a 4.0..

The only reason is... to be able to back it with a C4...

Out of curiosity has anyone heard of or have a link to a building where they swapped in a 4.6? Would that still be legal in CA?

Heres a couple of shots today of the truck I brought home. 313603_2375469075521_1514422366_2606830_253774106_n.jpg

Great looking truck! I hate to break it to you man but that is not an H&M Long Travel Kit. It is an ORC LT Kit who is no longer around

Yeah I noticed it looked a little different when I checked it out but couldnt tell which it was. I havent heard of ORC and cant seem to find much info about them. Anything about their quality?

the rear end also isn't linked like your first post says. maybe a giant 64 kit is what you meant? not much you can do to the 3.0 unless you want to get a tuner from SCT to pep it up slightly. it won't do wonders but will definitely help shifting firmness, slight throttle response, remove rev limiters and your speed limiter among other things.

Yeah I noticed that too and dropped my asking price accordingly. It is the 64 inch kit. I want to convert it over a linked rear end eventually. Im mainly looking for something to boost the low end power on this as it seems to struggle a bit to hold the higher gears when Im cruising on the freeway.

Question about wiring in some Hella lights. as you see the truck came with a 2 Hella lights but they are not wired in, there is a switch in the cab to flip them on but its not connected. Anyone have a decent wiring diagram for them?

Also I looked and noticed my truck didnt have any bump stops. I assume they should have them if Im going to be doing any serious off roading and wanted to know if you guys had any good pictures of them mounted over a LT A Arm rangers suspension. I can find a bunch of the I-Beam rangers but none for the A Arm ones.

easiest way to wire them:
power (with fuse) to switch (top prong)
if lighted switch, middle prong is ground
bottom prong goes to lights when the switch is on.
ground the lights.

as for a-arms, it depends on what you have to work with. bump off the lower arm works the easiest usually depending on your truck. post more pics of the suspension

I actually dropped the truck off to get a complete run down on the motor and tranny to make sure everything is ok and nothing shady was pulled like resetting the check engine light before selling it to me. Ill be getting it back thursday and Ill grab pictures of it then. Until then Im driving my little 4 banger Ranger around. The lack of AC is gonna be killer since it has been pushing 95-100 where I live and work.

You can build the crap out of a 3.0l..

These is way more out there than a cheap programmer.

Tom Morana V6 3.0l

You can stroke it and run a M90 on it with mega squirt and I'm sure it will fly....

The problem is..... Money>End result

I'm not sure if you can get a smog ref to accept a 4.6 or 5.4 swap.. I am looking into it myself...

If not, I am going with a SBF or even a SBC...

I have a spare 3.0 I am looking to get rid of.. Its in awesome shape. If your looking to build on something a little bit it would be a good candidate..

Other things you can do to get a little more out of the 3.0 is to port match the intake, port and polish the heads, and of course headers.. (I am under the impression your exhaust manifolds are junk)
