3rd leg

why wouldnt you just engage the e brake, and then start letting out on the clutch and giving it throttle and then releasing the e brake when you feel the truck trying to move forward (if that makes sense)? then you don't roll back and requires no modifications.

It is kind of awkward to reach down and pull the release while underway though.

I had a car with a hand parking brake, it worked pretty good to just hold it there with the release (button in the end of the handle) pushed in until we got the crazy train started up the hill.

With most of my hobby being Mustangs, I am just throwing this out there. Would a line lock work in this instance?

Shane, that is a very idea to think about, no wonder they keep you around.
Line lock is used in drag racing to lock your front brakes up hydraulicaly when heating the tires up or on the starting line. Just done thru solenoid valves operated by a switch, that's the ones I'm somewhat heard of.

well rose my ebrake got stuck on up at walmart and i was in a hurry so i cut the cable so i have no ebrake now

ahh I see. but wouldn't it be easier to just replace the e brake cable?

I disagree. Well maybe it's because i'm 6' 4" and i can reach the lever easily, but even awkwardly pulling the lever seems easier then devising a hand throttle to put in your truck, it just seems like an overkill solution to a minor inconvenience

I am 6'-3" and compared to having the hand brake under my right hand reaching around in front of my knee is far more awkward. I agree it isn't a great fix, I still stand by my handbrake idea.

It may be something that changed between generations too, mine is tad older than yours. In mine it isn't because it is so far away, more that I don't have anywhere to really put my leg while I pull on it.

rose it is also used to kick up the rpm's to use oba and ur winch without sitting in the truck hitting ur gas

That's exactly it Dave. My buddy had one on his 91 coupe. He had the B&M shifter handle with a switch on it (AOD). He could roast the tires good with that thing!

If you could have a line lock, it would leave the front brakes engaged until you push the switch.

exbass i like using my manual to brake going down hill and i also fall asleep while driving autos and dont know y, plus this is alot cheaper than an auto swap lol

Gee... seems that back in the day most trucks came with a hand choke and a manual throttle pull. Of course the old man's F-250 had a PTO on it too. Back when trucks were trucks and not the girlyman things they have become. Whatever happened to the good old days?

My first experience with line locks on brake was on our tow truck. Seems the clever guys that built it installed a line lock so you could positively stop all four wheels when yanking some tourist's car out of a ravine.

So 509 your idea does have merit as I can remember several times doing the three pedal ballet trying to get moving on a hill without a parking brake. But if you were feeling real suave and James Bond style you could have taken a brake lever from a bicycle and a piece of cable and rigged it to your gearshift so you could throttle and shift at the same time.

I also must comment about your typing.... How many beers did you have when you wrote your original post?:beer::beer::icon_thumby:

This sounds more like MacGyver than James Bond.

i will sometimes drop to low range, gears make a big difference! i can atleast get enoigh to let off the brake, if not get going
