I've been searching the forums and the internet with no luck. What is the extra engine mount that is attached to a gas strut stabilizer on the frame at the front of the engine on a 4.0l OHV? The power steering hoses straddle each side of it.

Its a torque stabilizer, usually left off after engine work, lol
It slowed down the engine's torquing to one side when accelerating quickly when starting off, might save wear and tear on a motor mount
Only found on the 4.0l Rangers, 1990-2000 I think, do not recall seeing it on the 4.0l SOHC models 2001 and up

yeah......its in the way of things that matter.

Thanks for the replies. I knew I just wasn't hitting the right term to describe it. But that is hard when you don't know what it is for. Since I am replacing the engine, I will remove it. I can easily re-add it later. I'm hoping the supercharger doesn't cause undo stress on the main mounts.

I would be inclined to use a chain or strap to limit movement.

Supercharged 4.0 will have some serious grunt where you need it once that tune is dialed in.

There was one of these mounts on the 4.0 I got from a '94 Ranger. Wasn't sure what it was. I'd sooner put a bolt with fender washers and a nylock through the motor mount just lightly installed to limit travel or keep the motor mount from separating entirely. I wouldn't think these engines make enough torque to worry about such things, but I guess with enough gearing, lockers, and enough hard off the line or hard shifts it could be an issue.

Possibly. I am only adding the SC to help with holding 75MPH on the Interstate and in 4Low when crawling so I don't stall out. I don't have any plans to tune. I'm just going to run an M90 with a larger pulley to lower the boost.
