im looking at buying a 84 ranger truck im just wondering if i was to bulletproof the d28 axles that aree under it if i could run 36" its going to be for some mild 4x4ing, i do got an 88 ford F150 i was also thinking of doing a ttb44 in the rangr what you think on running d28 with 36"s

a D28 would never live with 36" tires.....

a swap to a D35 would be a minimum....

a TTB 44 would be fine, but you need the conversion brackets.....

good luck...

D28 and bulletproof don't belong in the same sentence.

Do some searching and reading you'll find all the info you need.

i've seen 36's on a d35 w/ 44 outers hold up find. but never on a d28. 30's on a d28 can be scary at times... i've broke stuff on 30's (in stock form)

plus-- there's only a very small aftermarket support of the d28

Depends on the bullet. :icon_idea:

Stay with rimfire and you should be ok. :icon_thumby:

k just cause the truck im buying has 35s on it now but not sure what its going to hold up too

1 buy it
2 wheel it
3 upgrade when breaks

repeat 2 n 3 over and over again!

I have wheeled an '84 B2 on 36's, did not have any axle breakage:thefinger:

And as anyone who has wheeled with me knows, I use more throttle than thought:icon_hornsup:

i'm goin to do 35's on my stock junk. i have 32's now.

but i also know it's not going to last and when it breaks i'm gonna drag it back to the house and swap full size axels under it. :D

The 28 won't last long with 36's. Guaranteed.

With a TTB D35 swap, you could easily survive 35, and some have run 36's and 37's too (but that is pushing it).

If your ultimate goal is to run 36's, do a D44 or D60 swap and never have to worry about it....

Mine did not live long enough to break the axle, had a "small" accident....:shok:

My trailer jack-knifed and the B2 came off sideways:bawling: That was the end of that toy

d28's will hold up to 40's... easy....

i lie...

Yeah a D28's only chance of survival comes by way of leaving the hubs in the "free" position lol.

Throw a D35 under there and do the 760X u-joint and Jeep hub upgrades. It'll hold up as well as any stock D44 would. You'd have to deck out a D44 with all the chromo goodies to get anything better out of it, and by that time you might as well just go with D60.

However that F-150 D44 would be a worthwhile swap if it's simply the width you're after, though you'd need to swap the rear axle to match it up too.
