350 in a ranger

dang guys take a breath i am just here to get yalls opinion on something i MIGHT do.. thats right i dont even know if i will do it or not. I love small block chevy engines and i love my ranger but dont like the drive train and i love speed. This is going to be my future project truck so who knows what ill do to it but for now im still thinking small block, 450+ hp less than 3500 pounds and hopefully an 11 second truck. my friends and i are really throwing up some ideas and i just like to be here as a source for a second opinion because SOME people are very knowledgeable about these wonderful little trucks. i appreciate all of yalls opinions and cant wait to here what else you guys think.
thanks, Abel

SB Chevy's ? those are 60 year old technology. And no cheaper or easier to build than any SBF. Just my opinion, but the SBC is one of the weakest, ugliest V8 engines ever designed. Their only saving grace were they had better heads than most SB Fords (notice I said most) Notice I also said weakest. Weak cranks, & soft iron blocks............. great engines for those who rebuild em for a living. :icon_thumby:

Those tall. skinney intake ports ? Highriser 427. The cross bolted mains......again, Ford 427. The whole motor is based on Ford pushrod V8's. :icon_rofl:

And since 427's are so common to find today and fit in various engine compartment so easily...

My point was the LS motors are not new technology. They're old tech mated with EFI.

My point was Ford has nothing to offer out of the box that will compete.

If you want to get technical, the whole OHV V8 thing was not Ford's idea either...

It probably wasn't but it has more potential to push big hp/tq than a 350. Again ls1's are a good easy to find motor but they don't have a kit to put them in a ranger, they do have kits to put them in an s-10. And a 4.8 will still take some modification to fit in a ranger also. Either you're looking at lots of money and time. And a 9" with a spool would be a good idea for what you want.

You don't need a kit to do an engine swap.

... no horse in this race but my 6.0L LQ4 fits not bad.... Same issues as the SBF's have except oil filter and pan fit fine.

I know you don't it just makes it easier if you use a swap kit.

Just be prepared to spend twice as much money too. And chances are, half the parts in the kit will sit on the shelf after you're done.

Yeah, seriously. I'd rather build it myself. Or you can buy it, throw it across the shop (when it doesnt fit), and then build it anyway.
