How well do they fit? Does the tire press against the frame of the carrier? Need to shim the center part out?

This one looked like it had stock tires and looking back it did have tire rubbage on the frame.

I have this:

And it is sunk inside the tire/wheel assembly of my 31x10.5-15 spare about an inch and a quarter, It is a factory 15" first gen Ranger/BII "White Sport Wheel"

Is there enough squish to the tire to get it snug?

I have no idea. If I don't run out of time again tomorrow I have throw the Ranger's spare on the B2's carrier and see.

I thought people put bigger tires than 31’s on them... now I am not sure.

I can find pictures with bigger tires on the back but nothing on how things fit.

it would be a bit expensive, but a wheel spacer would possibly work.

I could shim the bracket out, I am new to tire carriers like this though.

I'm no expert here either...but when I set mine up I deflated the tire and put the tire plate on the wheel. I laid my 2x2 tube across the tire and measured the distant from the plate to the tube and made it that long. When together and inflated the tire just rests on the upright.

IMHO... 1.25" is way to much.

It doesn’t seem right to me either.

Alternatively the studs are really long so do they just pull the tire tight to the carrier? aka does the rim even seat against the “hub”?

On my F-150 a little 3/16” cable that just pulls the spare up to the frame...

The local yard just crushed their only BII xlso I can’t experiment.

I'm gonna go with "sort of".

This is not a true 31x10.50. It's a 235 something something 15, as close as you get in metric sizes, but a hair smaller.

It does fit, however I had to turn it around so the outside of the wheel faces the vehicle before I could get the studs through the wheel. Facing the "correct" way the tire hit the tube about 1/4 inch before the studs came flush to the wheel. Even still the tire is in contact with the tube in this picture.

Does the “normal” sized spare contact the carrier?

No, my regular spare is a 215/75/15 and I can get my hand in between the tire and tubing.

If the nuts never tightened metal to metal in the center hub, I think I would find some locking nuts. I would be afraid the other ones would work loose, especially if you had a slow leak and the tire deflated.

Thanks everybody that chipped in, it will be easy to adjust how that bracket mounts to my tire carrier now that I know the tire isn't really supposed to touch anything.
