302 tunning question

Correct. With a custom tune from an authorized dealer, you can add and or delete any combination you need. You can also change returnless style fuel system to return and vice versa...

That sounds perfect, exactly what im looking for. i just sent SCT a e-mail so, will get started on what i need from them.

Do you suggest deleting all emissions equipment from the tune. i mean know as far as power goes your better off without it but as for inpections do you just make it look like its there?

That's the way mine is. I still have my EGR valve in place, its just disabled in the ecu via the tune....

If you get it through Bama Performance, they give you Free Tunes for Life. I don't know if the other places do that as well? I am going to get the kit for my Mustang eventually (currently $279.00). I have other areas that need attention first.

Yeah im gonna have to go through some one else cause SCT dosent deal with
customers or something, they told me to basically go some where else.
So ill try e-mailing bamaperformance next.

I'm surprised you got that kind of response. They were very helpful when I emailed them. While they don't deal with customers directly, they did give me the info I needed to proceed. On they're site they have a dealer locator nearest you. From there you can talk to the dealer, who will be writing your custom tune anyway, to help you get your custom tune and correct handheld you need...

So i got an e-mail back from BAMA PREFORMANCE an dthey told me they wont touch any kind of engine swap applications so im still searching for some one that will be of any help to me at all.

They did tell me that the SCT livewire would be a good programer for my aplication but would then have to take everything to a local dyno tuner.

My whole problem is im trying to get atleast a base map so i can sort out any leaks or problems in my driveway before i take the damn thing like a 100 miles to a tuner, and waste his and my time.

I can tell you a 96-97 ecu will operate 98-01 electronics. I traveled about 130 miles to an SCT dealer to have my tunes wrote. My sport Trac has pats, so I had to run a non pats ecu to get to the tuner. After I got my correct ecu tuned, it ran much better and got way better mpg. Greg at speedy dyno in owensboro did mine, and I'm sure he can help you over the phone if you choose to go that route...

So 96-97 ECU no pats?

And i will have to give greg at speedy dyno a call and see what they can do for me.

Correct. 96 (sll3) and 97 (xdt2) are non pats, return style fuel system. 98 is pats, return style fuel system. 99-01 is pats and returnless fuel system...the return style fuel system ecu will run a returnless style fuel system, but will run real rich...

Return system FTW!

I finally got ahold of someone helpfull, a local dyno tuner that recomended which programmer to get, and will get me a base tune that i can run on to drive the truck to his shop for the dyno tune. so iordered the SCT X3. project is comming along slowly but hopefully will be done soon, next one the agenda is the trans rebuild.

Im planning to delete PATS, EGR, from the tune but what is the benifit of deleting the o2 sensors? and is there anything else i should have the tuner delete from the tune?

If your in an area where emissions testing is not done, I would delete pats, all emissions, rear O2, strengthen the trans shift firmness as much as he can, and let him know what gears you have, and what size tires you PLAN to run, if its different than what you have now...

SVT

I'm not in an area where emissions is done so don't have to worry about that, just safety inspections and they do still look to see if the cats are there so.....

And just to be clear when you say delete the rear 02 sensors, that's leaving two correct?
Its been a while sense i took everything out of the donor vehicle so cant remember if there were 4 in there.

Thanks for your help

The front two O2 sensors are used for determining and adjusting air fuel ratio, the rear two are used for detecting the cats doing their job. Some donors had three, some had four, but you only need the front two. It'll be hard to miss it as they are a part of the trans harness...
