new to this sight and lovin it.i'm planning on doing a rebuilt to my engine, also would like a v8.i have a 302 in a 85 f-150 and a 350 to work with.but a small budget.i can live without v8 and hop up 4.0 a little.either way the engine getting pulled, flipping coin on what goes back in.just wanted some insight on all this.pros and cons on v8 swap.do they make any performance parts for a 4.0??thanks for any help.

The v8 swap isnt too expensive and obviously more power than the 4.0, but the 4.0's are definitely strong motors. if ur on a tight budget i would just stick with the 4.0 for now and maybe v8 swap it later on. There are performance parts out there for the 4.0 throttle body spacer, header, intake, ignition, its all out there. good luck

Here's what they told me: a 302 in a RBV is cool & there's lots of info on this site

A 350 in a RBV is possible, but it's also possible you'll go the biblical hell for doing it

Other than that, I can't remember any of the other 1,000 pro's & cons

Have fun at it ,whatever you do!

Got down to the thread "just plain stupid, doing a sbc swap w/blackwidow
and check out what they're working on. Not sure if either of the V-8 would fit your buget. Would be cheaper to find a 4.0 in a yard and save up for the big swap later.

Look a while for a donor that you can get for a decent price for a 4.0L swap... If you're talking about hopping it up, scope up a game plan, calculate how much those performance parts will run (and machine work if any) and make a decision from there. The 4.0L will fit right in, but V8 requires some "creative" mods. 5.0L would be nice since you have an entire donor, but it sucks that it's not EFI. 350ci might get more expensive (depending on who you know) since it sounds like you might only have the engine itself...

EFI is nice but, a propane conversion is easy! :icon_thumby:

do u have the 4.0 ohv or the 4.0 sohc ?

i have seen a couple people do 350 swaps.

i have a 5.0 in my ranger and love it, its got plenty of power and is really fun to drive.

350 swap is getting common but the only reason I would do it is if I already had the engine laying around. If I had to find an engine or had both a running windsor and a running 350 I would swap in the windsor.

easy enough to convert an older 302 to EFI........ your most cost effective approach would be to replace the 4.0L with another 4.0L

Before you make up your mind, think of this...
The sweet sound of a built 302, cammed and carburated, at 3k RPM in 3rd gear.

Run nitrous in your 4.0 while you build the 302/350 you want. A 50-75 shot of nitrous will shorten the life of your 4.0 and your trans but you could have up to a year to get your engine ready while still ripping up the roads with an extra 50-75 hp.

An UNBELIEVER!!!!

PERSECUTE, KILL the HERETIC!!!!

you want the good news or the bad news first?
Ok the good:
You have the right to an execution manner of your choice...

The Bad?
the choices are burning at the stake, Impalement or being crucified

Yeah, you can put a 350 in it, but the ranger gods will smile on
your Ford piety if you use a 351 instead.
