302 build

Th '97+ 4.2 V6 F-150 has the best fitting M5OD out there, it has the shifter in the same spot as a Ranger (rather than nearly a foot forward)

The bellhoushing bolt holes are a metric size slightly smaller than the SBF uses but are easily drilled out.

Deja Vu. Seems like I saw you answer this question elsewhere, just recently.

As far as cams go Summit offers a Comp Cams kit. It comes with new cam, cam gears, timing chain, valve springs, retainers, lifters.

That is a nice kit but I want to go with a gear drive just to know that I wont have to replace a timing chain in the future. The lunati cam I have picked out comes with new lifters and the rest I have found for a decent price.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. Will those bolt up to the stock ranger transfer case or do you have to use the one that would be on it already?

I think I mentioned before that a full size trans takes a full size XC case unless you use a adapter. Beliveve the Ranger case bolts up with (5) bolts while the full size uses (6). Never really heard how strong the Ranger cases are by the way.

They take more than you would think but it is only a short list of transmissions that will couple them to a V8 without really expensive adaptors (you could buy several fullsize t-cases for what they want for an adaptor)

I have the stock 1350 behind my C5 and haven't had a problem with it yet. Of course between 3.73 gears, 31" tires and the 3spd it is pushing 3k rpm at 60mph...

Thanks guys for all the info. I'm still not sure how I'm gong to go about it though. I will have to do some looking around for more parts for my build. The only thing I have right now is the motor so I want to get it tore down and see what I have to work with there. I will be building it my self (except for the machine work of coarse). What Kind of headers have you see used on other 4x4 v8 swaps? Which ones work the best? And would I be able to get by without putting a body lift on the truck to put a v8 in it?

Like the article says I went with the Hedman 88400's, they fit very well in my truck but I don't think you will like them without a bodylift.

Timing chains last quite awhile...

Hey guys I have a question for you. What is the difference in the 2 & 4wd 302 motor mounts for a ranger? I really don't want to put a body lift on mine if I can get by with out it. I didn't know if one or the other would set the engine down lower in the engine bay.
